kintaro 0
Anyone know when a ski-jo posts that they have 360cm of snow (for example) where/how they take that measurement?
Frinkelbean 0
Depends on the resort, right? So I was told by a resort worker.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted March 31, 2005 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted March 31, 2005 Unfortunately, Kintaro, that seems to be the case. From what I know (and have seen), each resort has their place and reads it from there. I've even seen one place that put the pole in a place near a wall which gave an unrealistic (and intended) reading. They laughed when I suggested that might not be a good idea. Here in Yuzawa I've seen a few of the measuring places and they have ranged from the base of the resort to the top lift.
grungy-gonads 54
Typical. A friend of mine used to work at a place in Fukushima and said that they only replaced the photo on their website when it was snowing or favorable conditions. If it wasn't, they'd just leave the previous info up there. Basically they did this to deceive people and hope that they would go.

big-will 7
Is there some fixed system as such for this in other countries?
mattlucas 0
No there is not Maybe for some of the bigger places they are honest but the small places need all the help they can get Generally a place like W/B would be honest about it because the people collecting the snowdepth info are using it to develop avy forcast and stuff like that.
