barok 0
If I get a PS2 here in the states, will it work in japan ? will the games that I buy in Japan work on my USA PS2 ? gracias in advance.
tosh 0
Bad news I'm afraid. The answer is no. Unless you "mod" the system - and I am not sure if there is anywhere to do that or not.
tosh 0
Same apply for Xbox and Gamecube also I think.
barok 0
Thanks for the news. Too bad. That's really too bad. Oh well, can you get GTA3 over there ?
tosh 0
I dont know that. Most game is 6800 yen, but you can usually get them about 5800 with a discount. Maybe it is best to buy a machine in Japan? Or maybe bring a PS2 to Japan from US and use only US game.
barok 0
So tosh, do you mean that it will work, but that Japanese games aren't compatible ?
tosh 0
I am not 100% sure about a US PS2 working here in Japan. But I am pretty much certain about Japanese game not working on US machine. Good luck! Must go now......
oo 1
How much are games in the US barok?
LiquidX 0
Can't you get them "modded" so they can play games from different regions?
barok 0
you can get games for all different prices here. i think retail they are like $50-$70 but you can get them used and you can get good deals on ebay.com i want to get a system, but i'll probably just wait till I get to japan
Guest
If you buy it in the states and haul it over it should work in Japan. Voltage and TV type are the same (or virtually). Games and machine are area coded, however, and so a US machine cannot play Japanese games (so that Sony can decide to rip-off certain parts of the world -mainly Europe). You can get them "chipped" to ignore region coding, but this can be risky and I don't know where to do it in Japan. Ganbatte

Ocean11 0
http://st5.yahoo.co.jp/estoys/4948872300001.html There's one here for 28,900 yen. Don't know if this is a good price, but I seem to remember that's about how much they are.
ug 0
The PS2 has an "open price" I believe - but they are selling so many of them anyway thats about the price you'll pay
