...because the Japanese are hucked in the head. For any normal bunch of people, a calendar week with odd days off throughout it would be an obvious target for reform - 'Right folks, let's plug the gaps and have a week off. It's spring after all'. But not the Japanese. They interrupt their time off by going into work on the non-holiday days, to huck the dog and save up their precious paid days off until the summer or winter holiday.

 

They have a completely wrong attitude to holidays. They call the weekend a 'holiday' and until very recently, Saturday wasn't even a part of it. And they call a week with a couple of national holidays sprinkled throughout it 'Golden Week', as if it were some glorious, halcyon time when everybody forgets their cares and the very existence of suits and ties. Ha!
