pauldotnet 0
What's the snow like on Fuji at this time of year? For such a venture, what equipment is needed (crampons, harness, rope, etc.)?
mattlucas 0
Lungs the size of a horse. But its not that high though is it. Highest I've been is 3300m and that was no problem. I would love to know actually as well. But for later in the year like May - June
Ocean11 0
There has been a fair bit of discussion of the practical issues involved in this forum, and there is at least one feature about this. Try a search within SJ.
Fattwins 0
My father in law slid down the face for 2000 feet 25 years ago crampons are a must I think spring is best

damian 0
I can only do it in April, perhaps this is too early? I saw Fuji very clearly over the weekend and it seemed that there is still heaps of snow, more than in the photo from this story last season. I guess that there is still too much snow To be frank, I am prepared to pay someone who has done it before to be my guide: any takers? Anyone seriously want to join in? montoya 0
Have heard that these guys sometimes run guided-tours up Fuji: http://www.adventure-guides.co.jp/index.html If you're in Tokyo, I think they're based in Itabashi, might be worth it to drop by the office to check'em out. cayote 0
Let's pause for a moment to WONDER what it would be like to have lifts (quad gondals please) on Mt. Fuji. Leave it to Aussies and there would be a casino hotel resort and people doing loops around the mountain on the way down. Easy access from Tokyo and a LONG season! Now, that would put Japan on the world tourism map. (My apologies to mountain spirits.)
quattro 1
If you’re looking to snowboard down it you may want to find a splitboard. A splitboard is a snowboard that breaks in two which will allow you to skin up all but the steepest sections. Once at the top you reassemble it and you have a snowboard. Many back country borders use these.
slow 0
Hi montoya, I was thinking to take backcountry lesson from adventure guide this winter but didn't have any chance. So, I will do it next winter. They have really fantastic tour all over the world. I hope that I can join them sometime!
IM 0
I did send in a set of photos two seasons ago to SJ. They must be gone by now. The best time (in terms of access and snow) is after the GW. They will clear the roads to the mid-station, and there are still snow left to the parking from the top.
damian 0
I am on the investigative path, but I fear that my available time slot may be a little early. Post GW is a no go as I am having a sex change.
Ocean11 0
Taken this week apparently. Seems to be a lot more snow up there than I would have expected.
