  5. Well, actually, not really close up.... taken from Yuzawa Kogen. http://www.snowjapanforums.com/index.php/topic/21315-yuzawa-kogen-niigata-3rd-february-2012/ There's been some talk about it so I thought I would take some pics of it all, and here it is. This first one basically shows all of the South Area: Ropeway connecting Gala Yuzawa <> Yuzawa Kogen
  6. Let's Gala, was what we decided. Both of us on a holiday today and a kind of overcast kind of fine day, so put on the gear - less than usual, because it was warm - and get up there. My it was warm today. Going past the thermometer sign on Route 17 it said 14 degrees. On the way back it said 15. Snow was heavy and sherbet-y. Strange, but a very jerky ride even on groomed courses, almost as if the snow was sticky. Can't think how else to explain it. But on the way to and from the South Area, bits that need a bit of a cross-country push.... not fun. But skiing was ok, even though I wasn't feeling totally up for it. Good to get out though. Just a few snapshots using a crappy phone camera: Lots of snow slides On the way over to the South Area from the top It's a bit of a cross-country. Heavy, sticky snow does not help Look! There's Mitsumata. And look! There's Naeba in the background! Looking down from the top bit And looking back up South Area very quiet And the downhill course to finish things off

  8. Early this morning it was looking like the weather would be good today so I upped sticks and went to Gala Yuzawa, taking 'Cheese Dessert' with me. A cheeky thing he is. Spent most of the day scoffing at signs telling him not to be naughty. Enjoying the view on the way up ...and the view over to Minamiuonuma as well.... (he was scoffing at muikabochi who is busy working today apparently) Going places he shouldn't More sightseeing Riding the lift Scoffing at danger signs ------- Anyway, even with all the scoffing, I enjoyed our time together. But I got quite hungry on the Gondola on the way down, so I scoffed him! The end.
  9. Ah those first turns of the season are so sweet. The sun was out at Gala Yuzawa this morning making it a truly Gala day! Not busy though it was certainly not empty either. Really nice snow conditions. The have the main Chuo area open, including the top pair lift and run), as well as the quad over on the North area. Can't ski back down to base though. Some pics Silly extra thread here: http://www.snowjapanforums.com/index.php/topic/21002-the-adventures-of-cheese-dessert-at-gala-yuzawa-a-tale-of-scoffing/
