  1. Round 2! The snow kept falling through the week so I went back to Asahidake on Sunday (4/21). Totally different weather from last time, I'll let the photos do the talking. Perfectly clear conditions until around noon, then some high clouds rolled in, but visibility was practically unlimited all day. We got to explore most of the ropeway serviced terrain, accessing fresh runs all day. A 20 minute hike to the skier's left of the ropeway station got us to a beautiful ridge with a decently long line with perfectly spaced trees. We hit several pillows and drops as
  2. I will be in Hokkaido until January 27 and then again Feb 9 - 17 and I am really keen on exploring the lift accessed backcountry at Asahidake for a day or two. It looks truly epic. The problem for me is I am not keen on doing a solo mission exploring the area. If anyone one with backcountry knowledge and experience, and has and knows how to use the proper equipment is keen to hook up to explore the area together, during the time I am in Hokkaido it would be fantastic. Another option which I would perfer is to hire a guide/guiding service for a day trip at Asahidake, but usually guiding ser
  3. I made it over to Asahidake for the first time on Sunday. I've submitted a full review but here's a shorter version with some photos:- The good things:- 1. Lots of snow! There hadn’t been a big dump by their standards but off-piste there was about a foot of powder which increased as you went down into the trees. A couple of times after wiping out, I had to hike out through thigh-deep snow! 2. Nice tree runs. 3. It’s cheap! A 4 hour ticket cost 2,800Yen. & the bad things:- 1. There didn’t seem to be a lot of terrain (not that I would know – see below).
  4. Hooray! First dusting of snow on the peaks of Asahidake in Hokkaido. Don't get too excited, not the season yet. But it is the same day as last year and '3 days earlier than normal', whatever that means.
