  1. Return to Sayama: 4 years later. First went to Sayama 4 years ago: http://www.snowjapan...ma-spring-2008/ Decided to visit again for pre-season warm-up. This season, they have started allowing elementary-school-aged kids to ski for free. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the place was packed with kids -- including what appeared to be a couple of school groups. As a result, the lift lines quickly became formidable, with ~10-minute waits to get on the lifts.   2. Consider this a late trip report. About 4 years late, to be exact. In April of 2008, I made the journey to Sayama ski area in Saitama. Sayama is an indoor ski area, consisting basically of a long roof placed on a hill, with two single-chair lifts on either side of the single gelaende, which measures 320 m long. Obviously, the snow is entirely artificial. Surprisingly, the walls are not enclosed -- there are some plastic curtains between the slope and the lifts, with the curtains being open most of the day.   3. Ok, so it's artificial... Sayama indoor ski area getting ready for their planned opening on 10/22 (from their web page): To save electricity, they say they started making snow later than usual this year, and have mostly been making snow at night.
