  2. Snowboarders often find themselves lost at their local shop when it comes to buying a DVD to psyche them up for upcoming season. Although Mack Dawg retired from the scene, the general tendency sees more movies being produced every year, thanks to decreasing prices for quality filming equipment, from cameras to editing software. So what is a rider to choose? It depends on the kind of riding you want to see. In Japan, and perhaps in North America in the future, for those out there looking for a more intimate look at the riders’ lifestyle, with riding almost everyone identify with (no doub
  3. I got Car Danchi 3 on the first day, and it is pretty sweet. I'll write a full report when Neil gets the chance to answer to my interview. Ninety five percent of the footage is in Japan (mostly Hokkaido), with a small segment on Alaska. Sciclone, if you are looking for footage of Shiga Kogen, you'll need to take a look at the Japanese video market only, because Shiga Kogen is not a top destination for foreign crews, unlike Hokkaido. As for Car Danchi, as the name implies, they ride and sleep in their cars, chasing the storms and looking for nice backcountry lines. Very little space for r
  4. I think it varies from model to model. My Burton Malolo (first or second year) was built in Canada. I've had it for a few seasons and the flex and feel is still golden. There are only a few cosmetic blemishes, but nothing that affects the riding in any way.
  5. I do not know the NHK bldg in Tokyo. Actually, I don't know Tokyo all that much. I'm an Osakan transplant true and through. But in any case, it was not their flagship store in Shibuya, if that's the one you meant. The showroom is not opened to the public, it is for dealers only, and is located on the Aoyama-dori.
  6. Speaking of the Nofish, they did have a sample, but for some obscure reason (which I am unaware of), I failed to even take a pic of it! Sorry about that, Kumapix.
  7. Thursday I got to visit the Burton dealer showroom in Tokyo. My contact at the company showed me around and gave me permission to take some pictures of next season's model. You can get a sneak preview through 13 shots I took on: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/insider/photo_section.php?userid=Jyves Some of the stuff looks sick!
  8. What to expect from a day in Gifu on March 9th? Well, of course, no new snow, slushy conditions, and with some luck, some sunny and warm weather. And that's exactly what we got! Although the snow conditions weren't great, the company was. I went there with my baby, my ex-student Ringo and his wife. At Takasu, we joined the Dolphin crew, led by Yama-chan, who also happened to go there. Takasu is probably my favorite resort in that area of Gifu (Dynaland, Meiho, Winghills, etc.). The elevation is higher, the course are better I feel, and there is so potential for some good out-of-bound
  9. For those who wanted pics, I've added some on my page. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/insider/photo_section.php?userid=Jyves&category=1 (thanks for the link SJ, I hadn't thought of it ) They're very low res, with a throw-away camera, so please do not expect too much.

As for the airport, Mr Wiggles, there is still opposition to it and they figure it's gonna take like a 100 years to recoup the costs.
  11. As I've said, my digicam doesn't work. When I develop them, I'll see if I can scan them and then put them up, but usually scans do not offer great resolution (mine at least) and take a lot of memory.
  12. I'd like to add that I am developing a 6th toe these days. I don't know if it was caused by my boots or excess running (had 4 runs/hikes in 3 days 2 weeks ago).
  13. My fiancee and I left Osaka Monday afternoon, leaving from the newly built Kobe airport. Everyone in Kansai is wondering why the area needed another airport but I guess Kobe's mayors had a few contributions to pay off after the elections (or at least, that is what has been suggested). The flight to Chitose was half empty and we had an hour or two to kill at the airport before the bus pick up to our hotel at Rusutsu resort. We had some soba noodles and a small rice bowl topped with sashimi, accompanied by a local brew. A great start to an even better week. We arrived late at the hotel and quick
