  2. CB, The cost to climb Everest is high.

Just the regular permit to climb from the South side is around $10,000 (They had a 50% off sale a few years back). Of course that's only a very small fraction of the price. Another big cost is Oxygen, around $5,000. From what I've heard from friends (who have attempted to summit Everest) the minimum cost is $23,000 - $25,000 for you to risk life and limb. If you were gonna take a guided ascent I've heard the min. is $40,000. It seems the best way to experience Everest in person is to take a hike to basecamp which is dirt cheap if you go by yourself, even a guided trip is pretty cheap. Of the three people I know who've gone on this hike all of them have gone back to climb, but nobodys summited. One of them is going back next Spring to give it another go.

Oh, and BTW I think it's still unskied from top to bottom, but I may be wrong. I know the Japanese were the first to try it, but he made two mistakes. First, he was so worried about his PERFECT style that he ate shit only 30m down. Second, he wore death pants and slid like a thousand meters before a parachute could stop him damn near ending his life. wakaranai.gif

  3. Wow, is that some NZ country accent or what in that link? Can't understand a word.

    Amazing feat none the less.

I was thinking he would use the same, or less energy than with full legs because the big thigh would only have to move the carbon shafted leg, and no heavy double layered mountaineering boots.

I thought the only disadvantage would be balance.

While he's climbing in that video it seems that he swings his legs just as fast as his poles.

  4. Great pics everyone

I've been away from the Internet for too long, and am just hearing this sad, sad news.

Also had my High School locker plastered with DC photos. He was always my fav. in the steeps. Even used to run Steep Tech gloves and pants.

I'll never forget what he did for skiing, and I'm sure that's exactly what he wanted.

Shit, Trevor too. I was way into him as well at the time of his passing. Still have a "Trevor would do it" sticker on my old VW bus back at home.

  5. I can't believe they were holding onto this for "evidence". I didn't see Zacarias Moussaoui flipping of America through the window, come to think of it I couldn't see shit. I think the they should've bitched for the other camera angles instead saying this.

"We fought hard to obtain this video because we felt that it was very important to complete the public record with respect to the terrorist attacks of September 11," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. "Finally, we hope that this video will put to rest the conspiracy theories involving American Airlines Flight 77."

  6. Oh shit, sorry CB forgot all about it.

I've been out of the country for couple months.

I bet your mails deep in my mailbox, I'll go dig it out.

  8. Nope, Fuji usually opens on 7/1, which don't mean shit cause you can climb it anytime it's just that some huts wont be open yet. Also, the direct buses don't run from Shinjuku till climbing season opens. You can take a bus from Shinjuku to Kawaguchi-ko though. From there you have to switch to a dif. bus which runs hourly, or you can really climb the Mtn. instead of half by taking off on foot from Kawaguchi-ko. If your a really strong climber I believe it can be climbed from the bottom and back in one day, although that would be a rough, super long day. No matter what I think the last bus leaves the 5th st. at around 5 or so.

IMO the dates you are coming are the best dates you could have possibly chosen for climbing Fuji.

    Good luck.

  9. Damn snobee I was about to call bunk on the 9 of the 10 most venomous snakes are from OZ. A quick google and all 10 are from OZ.

My brother got bit by a burly ass rattlesnake, while hiking the Appalachian trail. He got lucky and didn't get any venom. That's the good thing about rattlesnakes, around 50% of the bites are dry.

  11. I cracked one of my F9's a few years back. built a small kicker to get over the fence back in MI.

Came down right in front of a hidden pipe from the snowmakers, cracked in the same spot right in front of the binding. Didn't totally snap, but was totally unuseable. Also split the tips twice on a pair of K2 Extremes. The local ski shop just hated to see me come in.

    Man, hostesses are everywhere.
You just don't notice, I think every girlfriend I've ever had has been a hostess at some point. Pretty good money for just talking shit. Half the girls in Shibuya have been a hostess at some point. The makeup is like a tie to salerymen.
