  1. Just my opinion, but there was no rain at all in August. The Hirakawa river was dry as a bone late Aug. There's been a few heavy falls lately, but they are still down here.
  2. The one that got the young lad in Otari was reckoned to be about 100kg. Not that big. There's been lots of bear sightings latley.I would have thought they would haev told the kids to stick to the roads and not follw any paths through wooded areas, which seems to be where he was attacked.
  3. Tis a bit of a worry. We got text messages about this early this morning. There was a bear sighting in our neighborhood last week.
  4. If the democrats get a majority in the house or senate in the mid term elections, will this reign him in? 5 years on and the if we ask ourselves who has benefitted from the WOT, it is not a pretty answer. This is a good site.
  5. Right click on the desktop and choose properties. Click on the screen saver tab and near the bottom there are power settings. Click on the button and the rest is pretty self explanatory.
  6. Cleanliness is vital. Only place I've evey noticed that wasn't up to scratch was a love hotel in Aso in the middle of nowhere because it had cockroaches coming out of the plug hole in the bathroom.
  7. You can get several games a week as well as Rugby League, Rugby on the Aussie Network on 4th media. I watched the swans/eagles game and it was a great game (even though I know shite about it).
  8. Soub: I thought the buildings were designed to survive a 707 strike. Such an design would have had to take into account fire damage as it is inevitable that a plane hitting a building will create a fire. Also as the planes did not hit smack bang n the middle, you would assume that the structural damage was more on certain parts of building. This should mean that the building should topple over, rather than falling at almost free fall speed into its own footprint. 2 other problems are the concrete turing from a solid into a fine dust rather than the blocks you would expect, and more te
  9. How about telling people when they are suppose to applaud. My first apartment has instruction diagrams on the toilet to show men how to lift the seat for n#1s but to sit down for #2s. Or the announcements to watch out for foul balls after a foul ball is hit in baseball.
  10. Quote: Most of them aren't scientists but instructors in the liberal arts at second-rate colleges who have spent much of their careers tilting at various windmills. Professor James Fetzer of Minnesota, for example, thinks that JFK was killed by several shooters and that the moon landing in 1969 may have been a hoax. Written by a professor of English??? C'mon Soub, this guy is attacking the messenger here. One thing that would clear up a lot would be the release of the security tapes around the Pentagon. Can't see any reason why not (We've all seen videos of the WTC crashes, it can't
  11. Koyasan is bit more Gaijin friendly but there are places there that refuse them too.
  12. Robest: Listen to BP. Driving in Osaka is a pain in the a_s. They have a big loop in the middle that is very difficult to figure out. If you wan tto rent a car pick it up in Kyoto as the expressway from there is quite easy. Take the Haruka express to Kyoto and then go from there. Also remember you need snow tires or chains from a certain point depending on conditions. This could add a bit to the cost. And with that misorano wobbles off to the kitchen to mix up a shochu as it's 5PM on a Friday nite.
  13. Don't know about England, but in Japan you can complain to the health department and the local authority that has registered them.
  14. That extra shot of testorone in the middle of the 1st trimester did the job after all. So is he 3rd in line after the crown prince and his father? He may well become a very young emperor.
  15. Big Will: It's more fundamental than that. The DNA is unlike any other grape in the world. And according to Dr. Taro Yamada of the TUOURF, the closest DNA he has found to it is the South American tree sloth. But serioursly folks, I would have thought that the Japanese Wine industry is still in int's infancy. Takes a while to develop good wine.
  16. Beginner: Go to a travel agent that displays a ANA or JAL logo. Cheapest option is to book a flight + 1 night hotel deal in Sapporo. Use the night in Sapporo either on the first or last night. Then book accommodation at either one of the hotels listed on this site or by other means. You have can have up to 14 days between flights. The flight and hotel deals starts at about 23,000yen, more of course in holiday season.
  17. Apples!!!!!!!!!! Picked off the tree in Nagano are the best apples I've ever tasted.
  18. Happy: I'd follow Soub's advice and get a 2 litre box of Banrock Station. The Shiraz Cabernet is the best of their reds. They also have a few whites, but I don't drink it.
  19. This morning my daughter was walking to school past the footbath (ashi-no-yu). Some gaijin had stripped right off and was taking a full on bath there.
  20. Rach: There sure are a lot of questions, but like a US court case each side trots out their own experts who claim beyond a doubt that they are right. For me the key seems to be the pentagon, where it is hard to imagine a 757 doing the damage that occured there . Reminds me of Kennedy with the entrance and exit wounds, as it seems the last hole (exit) was larger than the inital contact with the building. photo There would appear to be plenty of video evidence of the Pentagon attack (hotel, gas station, pentagon security etc), but by not releasing any of the videos it looks a but
  21. Must be on the way. Got our first Niseko and Shiga Kogen Bookings in over the weekend. Still got to get through Undokai season yet. First one yesterday.
