  1. People are probably apprehensive about joining in because of comments like those you often post.
  2. If it is so annoying why don't you just ignore it? Don't you have more pressing matters to be annoyed at and get worked up over? MAybe things that really matter, things that are real problems, services that you pay for.... Japan / Niseko / wherever / forums will be new totally to some people, they may be into the search thing which may not bring exactly what they are looking for. I think the idea of some new member or new to japan section is a good idea - though the simplest solution is for people with the short tempers and/or the ones who find it irresistable to put newcomers off
  3. Thanks, I'll take a look. That one's really too big though for my needs (and my one lens).
  4. Can you show me where to get (or research) one of the above please? Thanks.
  5. For something like this I would really prefer a book (not something to read on my pc, I spend enough time there).
  6. This one Kumapix http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Lantern-Guid...81177844&sr=8-8 I kinda like the official case though. Do you know if the lens would fit in there?
  7. I'm sure I read that they expect the Nagano Shinkansen to be used much more when the new section to it opens in however many years time. I think they said it will take business away from the Niigata stretch of the Joetsu.
  8. Me too mina2 - and I plan to take a fair few sexy shots of such mountains in the coming months
  9. Do you guys have a case for it? Whats that official "semi-hard" case like and I am wondering if my camera + 18-200 will fit in there......
  10. Thank you, I'm going to pick it up tonight Getting a card at the weekend and I've also ordered the Magic Lantern guide which is apparently very good.
  11. It's sickening that someone get paid that much money for doing that. They should have put it out to the yoof (thats what the London Olympics was all about right) for ideas and get it done on the cheap. I'm sure some sort of interesting competition would have been possible.
  12. Yes I get carried away sometimes, I do enjoy researching and learning but there is a point where I know it's time to make a move. It becomes all-consuming and I start thinking about nothing else! It's just a fair chunk of cash so there were a few conflicts going on in my head.
  13. Sod it. I went and ordered the Nikon D200 with the 18-200 lens this morning if only to stop me spending hours and hours doing research. The camera was 150,000 yen, the lens 89000 yen but I get nearly 20000 yens worth of points for that lot and knowing the guy a few more small goodies when I go to pickup.
  14. Are there any hot places for cameras in Tokyo? Akihabara? Just wondering if you would get a better deal there than online or not.
  15. You need to take off the ?v=0 at the end of those links. Bushpig, you should upload some of your great travel ones to SJ and put them in the Japan travel thread, would be a really good addition. Having said that a fair bit of nature there - love the birds in the nest!
  16. Next question is about memory cards. Any particularly recommended or are they all pretty much the same? Good to be able to ask people in the know! Thanks
  17. Thanks kumapix! Big question. I'm no pro photographer but would like to think myself capable of taking some great shots. D200 = too complex / too much? D80 = best for me?
  18. One more q - anyone using NIKON CAPTURE NX? Would be interested to know any feedback on that.
  19. If you count in the "points" you get with Amazon, it is pretty much exactly the same price as what is on kakaku. Just worked it out.
  20. OK understood. From what I have been reading that 18-200 really is the best bet (for someone with no current lenses).
  21. Thanks. Where can I get the 200 for that price? It's 146800 on kakaku now. Perhaps the best would be D200 body + "18-200" lens. Would that lens cover me for pretty much all occasions. I do a lot of landscape but would want to take more closeups as well. Basically I know the 18-200 is the best lens. I just want to know if I willreally need anything else.
  22. Getting in on the act: Nikon D80 body + Nikon 18-200mm. Sounds good? I'm not too sure on whether a "normal" lens is needed in one of the kits that they sell or if it is just buying the body and the sexy lens.
