TR - Happo Slackcountry
AK 77 replied to eskimobasecamp's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
No, it did have a lot of kick due to its location, but it also had a lot of lot of hang time (realtive to it's size) and was a bit of a step down, so it would have been carnage for me and my total lack of straight-over-the-back air awareness. Another day - with you! -
TR - Happo Slackcountry
AK 77 replied to eskimobasecamp's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Why is it always nipple deep on the way up, but boot deep on the way down? Alternative commentary might read: 'Scoping lines to see where we get out without getting flagelated by bushes' In the end, there were some nice patches and corridors that opened up through the bushes. Just to set the record straight, Kuma and I were the ones late for FT, so missed his properly nice line from above Happo. This was Kuma's fault for being girl slow getting onto the mountain. This was EBCs fault for saying that it would take less than an hour and that she knew the way, then deciding -
already spoke to you bout this, but i aint fraid to say it in public. SKA is the best. I'm down.

Good luck keeping FT off your wine! (mind you, if it cost more than 600yen he won't recognise the taste!) A little background on Kuma's pic above - the background may be a bit light cos the foreground and subject were in heavy shadow! You really couldn't see the landing much in the shade. This drop is just by carving off the edge of a cat track and ollieing. The landing is between the trees on the left and right, avoiding the couple of trees in the middle. It was my first run of the day (yes, i got up late) and first jump. It's a bs180 no grab. Dizzy also did a bs 3 off the -

Ski resorts forced up the mountains

Yeah, if Japanese resorts went to the top of the mountains instead of fannying around half way up (or Canadian resorts, for that matter) that would be great! -
POLL: Gloves or Mitts?
AK 77 replied to Powderoo's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Quote: Originally posted by Kumapix: actually AK wants these gloves: I know cuz he told me he loves LEVEL word Kuma, I couldn't have the same gloves as you, we'd get our wrist guards mixed up! Bought the Black Diamond Patrol mitts for 8000yen last night. Hoping the leather works out ok. Will give them a good nikwaxing before using. Deciding factor was that they fit over my pipe gloves for layering up, oh, and they are made of British goats from Somerset (home of cider), so that's nice. Get them back for eating your rucksac, tent, etc when you're camping. -

Not to be outdone by Touqe and Kuma (not to mention Ianbc's sickening shots in their own thread) here is my contribution. I've heard that EBC likes a stick between the legs, and gets into some unusual positions, but really, c'mon, keep it off the mountain kids. -

Nice pic beanie! It must always be a bit of pain to spoil the nice hike up that you love so much with the pesky ski down! -

Nice work (and nice logo Kuma)! Good job making that look like a half decent shot given the lack of light at the time. Wish I could say the same about me! Sorry about my back arm too! Wack style alert! - you can sense my tension about the trees right behind the tip of my nose exactly in the middle of the run-out. Do you wanna the post the third shot too - the one where I ollied wrong and said "Oh f*&K" about the time you snapped. Stick it up without any tweaking as a contrast with the better shot? Worth a giggle. -

sick - I was thinking "I wish i could have nabbed a red pole to stick across the kicker before we left"... ...and they did for me. stoked. Gotta make that Patrol dude hit it next time too! (It's not very big) -
Into some proper powder - I really suck at them - total mental block thing. Can we session front flips instead? Definately goofier, never landed them either but I can do them into water fine, as opposed to backfips which send the brain into meltdown.

I didn't mean I would charge you! Ha ha! I meant originally - as in they are different from the borads you would get for free, or cheap in a recycle shop! 27.5 should be ok. I'll see you at the weekend. -

I had a 5 year warranty and as soon as that's done, I'm gonna get a HDTV. In what way is it 'Out of Date'? Does it not work? Does it no longer do what it said it would? The manufacturing companies must be so happy people are so easy to dupe. I hope the toaster matches the colour of your new TV. It would be a shame to have to replace either of them.

AK can I borrow a board on the 31st of Jan maybe your small board? My school is going night sking and I figure I might as well take the free lesson to ride. Im looking for a free or very cheap board to learn on. I just need a decent shaped board and short maybe 155cms max. Well my boards aren't free or ch -

Don't worry. I suck too - I just hang around on the flat outside the cafeteria ollieing. Ask FT, it's true. I've only really got skills in the cafeteria, and that depends on your point of view. I'm not sure you really want those. If you want to ride switch, do that all day, and stay switch when you encounter problems, don't revert back round. It's your brain that can't handle it at first, not your body. I switch ollie like a mongoloid with rickets, but it's only my mind stopping me. and a slight lack of coordination. -
Off topic (in the off topic forum, oh how postmodern): The very first time out in Japan, I asked someone which one was the male toilet, they said 'It's the Kanji with the box' - I saw the womb box of the female kanji and headed straight on in... always remembered it since then. Back on topic: I can't.... Stretch every day, like I tell myself i'm going to do. Stop eating when I'm comfortably full if there's food left on the plate. Shop for food or order sensibly when I'm hungry. Tidy the house properly unless someone is coming round. Do backflips.

Ollie, ollie ollie. Just thought i'd say that. I like ollies. Also useful for escaping to victory if you realise you are going a bit too slow to reach the landing of anything (EBC you got that pic from Huge's camera yet?). Ollie ollie. Sir Jib a Log, with a name like that you should only refer to your board as your 'trusty steed'. No continuity, some people. tsk. -

The patrol mit is meant for work around the resort. Like setting off bombs, fixing people and whatever else patrollers do. Should be ok for snowboard use I think edit: I just went and looked at them. I'd buy them for sure. I want a mitt... I've been and looked at them twice, but I'm still not sure. All round they are the
