  1. toque, did you break the 5th metatarsal? (i just went back and read how you got hurt, i broke my foot tripping over a vacuum cleaner a few years ago and missed a really good march and april in whistler)
  2. i play ultimate frisbee one night a week and on sunday afternoons if i'm in Tokyo. i try to do some light exercises at home pull-ups/push-ups/crunches and yoga but since starting my new job have not made much time for any of it. i was using the stairs at work but had to slow down because i was aggravating some sprains and my shin splints. same injuries keep me from jogging. and i don't have a bike. i should really swim but i find it a hassle. climbing gyms are the only kind i go to but that's too expensive at the moment. (i used to go 2-3 times a week before i came to Japa
  3. kuma that's so cheap. some places charge 3000 for just one session.
  4. smoking in the gondola is pretty bad, but i'd say puking is a notch higher. (ok. i admit i did laugh my ass off at the kid but i was lucky i couldn't smell it.)
  5. people stopping (or worse, sitting) in blind spots, high traffic areas or other dumb places.
  6. another 10-15 expected by sat. CB, i'm on a pair of noodle soft '04 Seth Pistols in need of base repairs, topped with Naxo AT bindings
  7. i'm 0 for 2, so i'm glad it's dumping. going mach speed on ice with my fat skis was a bit less than ideal last weekend. i'll wax tonight if i have time, but i really want to go to town on my skis in Fattwins sweet looking tuneup room.
  8. then it's prob close to a montreal style bagel, they tend to be smaller, harder, and more dense than their NY counterparts. they also have a bit of honey added in the dough for sweetness.
  9. other things that enhance the taste, drink brandy in a warm glass (if you want to get technical, a brandy snifter is made so that your hand keeps the glass warm as you drink. also the wide opening lets you inhale as you bring the glass up to sip and get maximum enjoyment. you also breathe in the alcohol that evaporates from the warm spirit) to warm the glass, fill with hot water, empty and dry. fancy version of a sidecar: cognac and grand marnier without lemon juice
  10. in the BC the rule is more people -> less safe if no one knows the area, a big group is even less advised.
  11. now, now. that should probably be left as an exercise for the reader.
  12. from Japan-Guide.com: Quote: The big exception are the ATMs found at the over 20,000 post offices across the country. ATMs at post offices allow you to withdraw cash by foreign Visa, Plus, Mastercard, Maestro, Cirrus, American Express, Diners and JCB cards and provide an English user menu (i've never had problems with my 'plus'/'interac' cards from Canada) two caveats, first ATMs here have operating hours (what's the point!?) so be careful. the ATM at the small post office where i lived would only be open during business hours and was closed on Sundays!!! second, i go
  13. where are people planning on riding? i've only been to goryu/47 so I'm keen to ski happo. is there any point in bringing my bc/avy gear (i guess i could always practice)? btw ft, looked at your site and the lodge looks great. looking forward to staying there.
  14. it ruins the iron so don't even think of putting it back in the laundry room. and your board/ski is still in contact with the snow, so yes it does make a difference even in powder. since the trudge across the flats is way worse in powder, i'd make sure my board/skis were as fast as possible sharp edges however are not as important. to improvise a scraper 100 yen shop might have something usable. in a pinch, a sturdy ruler, bookend, cutting board... just make sure whatever it is is straight and hard. (insert puerile joke here)
  15. Kumapix, do you clean up the scrapings? You should always dispose of wax scrapings properly. Ski waxes are chemicals and they damage the environment. Skiing already leaves wax residue on the hill, why cause even more damage unecessarily. If you are hot waxing in a small space make sure you have proper ventilation. Those vapours are toxic. Quote: Hydrocarbon materials (ie. Paraffin) are composed of petroleum waste byproducts (from gas and oil refinement). As such, they are non-renewable and unsustainable. Furthermore, these waxes have been shown to contain many chemic
  16. Gamera, to my knowledge there is no such thing as a white-in, but we do have black-outs. whiteouts usually occur in open areas where the wind is free to blow dry loose snow around. you often get whiteouts in the high alpine since there are no trees, winds are strong and the temperature is lower.
  17. Canyons offers bc tours, the site says he's got CAA Level 1. The rest of the staff is CAA RAC.
