  1. No plans yet, but interested for late Jan or Feb. When are you there Thursday?

Hope it stays reasonable for a while.
  3. OT but I'm loving the exchange rate changes. If it stays as it is until December I will save 200,000 yen with next year's Australian university fees. And my Japan yen salary will have similar buying power at home in the UK as here when I go home for Christmas.
  4. Don't go in after they are officially closed. Don't go in the girl's onsen if you are a boy or vice versa. Don't spill red wine in the bath. Don't change the male/female signs around late at night and cause ususpecting old Japanese ladies to meet naked gaijin men early the next morning.
  5. Get ones with the cords that tie around your wrists so you don't drop one off the lift when you take one off to get something out of your pocket.
  6. I use expatexpress.com - Really good and often cheaper than using the original company's shipping even if they do offer international.
  7. Expat express does a buy for me service if you need to buy using a US credit card. There might be a similar service for the UK online somewhere.
  8. JT also has a research division working at finding cures for cancer, HIV and the like.
  9. Great. It went terrible for a while last year with loads of static-type noise but the latest version is fine. I've got a cordless headset (Plantronics CS-50) so I'm not attached to the computer while I'm talking. Expensive but worth it.
  10. Marmite is yeast extract, I think it was made with a byproduct from beer during the war when it was difficult to get hold of fresh produce.
  11. I imagine that it would (and perhaps should) be hard for some people to admit it even to themselves. My Dad always told me that he loved me more because I was the firstborn but that I should never tell my sisters. I respected him less because of it, feeling that either he was lying and secretly saying similar things to each of us or that he was telling the truth but should not feel like that, much less admit it. I think my mum loves us all equally, but I know, as Mamabear says, that she likes different ones of us at different times depending on how we are behaving!
  12. A lot of the info you are asking for in on this site but not in the forums. Check out the tabs across the top of the page (navigates away from the forums). . Recommending resorts, and snowfall stats - click on the resorts tab at the top of the page. Search these forums as to which are best for backcountry, least crowded etc There has been some stuff on the forums about accomodation but it might be more difficult to find. Basically - it's not financially viable to rent an apartment short-term in Japan as the start up costs are equivalent to several months rent. Your best bet woul

It's pretty easy - just gotta remember to leave the pc on and close all the other programs. I use logmein.com to sync my home and work pcs.
  14. Everything on external HD at work, backs up automatically every night and I syncronise the D-drives of my work and home pc's about once or twice a week. Wouldn't be much use in case of a "natural disaster" as home and work are about 5 mins apart but my photos are all online at smugmug so somewhere outside Japan. Back up photos to DVD once a year.
  15. One of those ultra sonic things, right? I've got one too. They sell then in Japan but Yodobashi and places seem to have older models so you have to go to Sony Plaza or Cost-co if you want the newer ones without the funny cover thing behind the brush.
  16. Tsonda, I guess your friends have docomo FOMA. Docomo MOVA is better for coverage. Docomo used to be gov. owned so they set up the antenna whereever they wanted whereas the private companies need permission, which is difficult to get for remote places (or so I heard). FOMA is the newer, cheaper (now standard) system but it is possible to switch over to MOVA when you head into the mountains (but they you can't use email or i-mode so its a bit of a pain). When docomo finally gets rid of MOVA, they will switch all their antenna to FOMA and then their coverage will be great.
  17. Honestly, there have been so many PM's since I came to Japan, I can hardly keep up!
  18. I might be up there the second week of February with a few people.
  19. I come from Swansea (163). Wonder why that escaped.
  20. Under two years old. Sitting at the top of the stairs crying and then being held by my mum as she carried me saying, "It's alright Jayne, you've just had an electic shock. Let's go downstairs and have some Jelly Babies". Then I remember her opening the cupboard in the kitchen to get the Jelly Babies but I don't remember eating them. I don't remember the actual shock but aparently I touched some live wires that my parents didn't think were connected. My mum said I was quite a bit under two but I remember that moment and my mum's exact words really clearly. My dad connected the live wir
  21. Congrats Domo. Cute. (That dog is too big for my screen too)
