  1. I am actually in NYC for it this year (first time to the U S of A too!), so am quite looking forward to catching the parade there if I have chance. SHould think a glass or two of the black will be sunk also! Anyone ever been to the New York Paddy`s parade?
  2. I got stuck in a lift for an hour and half on the night before my finals were about to begin at university! There were about 8 of us in the lift and all of us had been in the library all day, we were pretty much the last people to leave the floor and the libraray was pretty much closed, so it took ages for anyone to come and get us. We just sat there squashed up hoping that we would get a few days extra grace or an instant 2:1 with our final exams because of "the trauma" of it!!!! We didn`t!

  4. [quote=bobby12 ...I like the australian-looking guy who obviously fancied himself as a model once upon a time and has professional photos. (the one in the suit staring decisively at the sun/the future next to a skyscraper). ] That`s the very guy I know!!! Japan`s one and only Spiderman impersonator!!!! GOLD! He is in for a HUGE ribbing.
  5. CLASSIC!!! Jane you made my year, I had a look at that lot and I actually know one of the guys on it!!! Knocks around a bar I occasionaly frequent in Tsudananuma, his claim to fame being he is the only "official Spider Man kids entertainer in Japan"!!!!! That is outrageous!! Is now getting printed up and shall soon be on the walls in above mentioned bar!! Brilliant!
  6. Really interesting set of photos showing the impact we have had on the earth and also some natural change. Photos 7, 8 and 9 are crazy. Fragile Earth
  7. HAven`t heard of Gazza for an age, just read this today. Going the way of Best. Gazza sectioned under mental health act "Fog on the Tyne is all mine all mine, Fog on the Tyne is all mine.." or something to that effect!!
  8. There was always the option of hiring a car in Tokyo. Not expensive and would have had tyres that do the job and easily done at the last minute. Just a thought for next time anyone in that situation.
  9. Am off to Shiga Kogen tonight for a while. It is by by far and away my favourite resort. Loads of space, lots of mountains connected to each other, you don`t have to ride the same lift all day, and great snow. Its the place I know best which helps and also have a cottage up there I can use for practically free, but consistantly comes up with the goods. Great snow and great place. Look forward to your report on it 2pints.
  10. S14`s is 14 clubs from OZ, NZ, AND SA. bit faster pace rugby and exciting to watch. Australia Brumbies Waratahs Reds Force New Zealand Blues Chiefs Crusaders Highlanders Hurricanes South Africa Bulls Central Cheetahs Lions Sharks Stormers
  11. S14 Starts today with the new experimental laws. What teams do we have followers of on here?
  12. Another shocker of a second half for Eng V Italy this weekend. Narrow victory but a win non the less. Sakey`s try courtesy of the legendry Wilko was great, what a awsome little chip and pass. Amazing to see his 1000th point on the board too. Feel a little sory for Italy, if their lineout was up to scratch they may have squeezed a try in at the end. France Ireland was a really exciting match, and if a few decisions from the ref would have gone another way could have been Ire. day. Patterson was on great form for the Sweaty Socks, but again not much outside him. Hook was also looking
  13. As expected, scraped a 62% not too much of a surprise. Will prob try again next time for the elusive 1kyu!!
  14. The 6 Nations kicked off last weekend. As an Englishman I was left dumbfounded at the way the Eng V Wales/Osprey-lia match turned around. It looked like the second half the two teams swapped shirts and were playing the wrong way around!! Lots of injuries didn`t help but it should have been put out of sight in the first half. Credit to Wales for capitalising whenthey ahd chance. The traditionally English named Vainikolo had a good debut and has retained his place also for Italy this weekend. Elsewhere, no shocks for Scotland V France and Ireland looked a little shaky V Italy.
  15. As long as you offset your flights carbon emissions by doing somehting particularly eco friendly this month! On the subject of taxes, my flight to NY in March is also giving me an extra 40,000Y slap in the face.

  17. Ballad of a Gaijin (Sung to the tune of Sting’s “Englishman in New York”) I don’t make coffee or make tea my dear. I like to boast, I’m full of pride. And you can see I eat my ramen with a fork. I’m Charisma Man (not a Dork!) See girls gawking down the avenue. Lots of J-girls at my side. I must be making lots of ‘business for the Stork’. 20. I was lucky enough to be wined and dined at Joel Robuchon`s restaurant in Ebisu last night. I love my food, and I can`t say I have had many better dishes. We had the taster course I think and it just kept on coming. In total something like 10 or 12 dishes, those that really impressed me were Veal Sweetbread stuffed with ham and braised with cream, an amazing quail dish which came with some truffle (which was discussed in another thread once), there was some squab which I have never had before and was a taste sensation wrapped in bacon, and some ridiculously succulent slow roasted vegies with I
