  1. Just one thing I want to say before this forum closes....I love Happo-shu!

    There i have said it.

And to think I thought you were a stand up guy!!

    ;)

Spent this afternoon supping pints of Yebisu Creamy top in Darwins pub in Sapporo....600¥ for a pint during happy hour makes it about the same price as back home

  2. Wow. I'm gutted. I've really enjoyed the community we had going here over the years. Productivity at work is surely going to go up. I'd be fine with my email going onto a contact list of some sort if anyone wants to get in touch.

Many thanks to the SJ dudes for all the hard work.

I'm going to miss you guys... :console:

Actually so would I. If it was possible to compile a list of willing SJers before the live plug is pulled to allow their email address to be put on a list that is sent out once to those who have given their consent.....that'd be awesome to keep in touch.

  3. Peetan it was DiGriz who mention twin room try looking at best available price

Correct, the Metro chain is considered 4 star but this Metro is house in the Sepia Tower. The Sepia tower is built using old and new Japanese building methods. Using the old counterweight system used in Japan's centuries old Pagoda and the latest concrete building methods of that time. If it was built to international standards of the same period, it would have collapse on 3/11. That why this particular Hotel is worth a extra star. I was in the Sepia Tower on the 34th food when the .9 quake hit at 2.45pm on the 3/11. If you do not think staying in a earthquake proof building so that your family are safe in a earthquake prone City is not worth a extra star then you are entitled to your opinion be it a bad opinion at that.

You must be new to this forum because most users of this forum known the history between Tubby, Pie and myself.

Tubby voiced his opinion at my comment. My comment contain advice on where to stay at for a bargain price. Tubby comment on my advise

So who is doing the so call trolling.

Do you want ban Tubby as well.

Anyway I think Tubby can bat for himself. You just hold up your end.

As for my nationality I don,t think anyone cares. I know I don,t

Your welcome to think that pointing out a well known trait is considered discriminative. The majority of Scottish people are very proud of being frugal. Judging by Tubby reply, it is Tubby who is offended by this fact. If I apologise to Tubby I would be offering the Majority of Scottish people. So I suggest, build a bridge and both get over it.

 The majority of Scots are proud to be frugal?!? Hmm.....I think you are insulting my ancestors

You are aware of what a public forum is right?! It's a discussion of topics.....you said that the Metro, at 180 dollars, is a bargain.....I said that it depends on what your idea of a bargain is, because 180 dollars is not a bargain.......for me a hotel room that's 180 a night is pretty damn expensive.......how exactly is that trolling?!?

History between me, you and Pies?

i have no history with you.....you may perceive us to have some but that's a one way street.....I simply take part in discussions that are going on in the forums

  4. Katie Mulrennan

Katie Mulrennan has been teaching English in South Korea for two years

A teacher from the Republic of Ireland has been turned down for a job in South Korea due to the "alcoholism nature" of Irish people.

Katie Mulrennan, from County Kerry, had applied for a teaching job in Seoul.

She was told by an agency that their client did not hire Irish people due to their perceived drinking habits.

The 26-year-old told the BBC that she could not believe the email was real at first.

"Usually when you apply for a job and they don't want you, they don't send a reply," she said.

"Or they tell you they would prefer someone from North America, because some schools prefer the accent.

"But this reply was a first. When I got the email, it was so abrupt and short. I actually laughed when I read it initially.

"But then I wanted to write back a really angry response.

"In the end I took a deep breath and sent back a reply, that was a little bit sarcastic as I couldn't believe the email I had received. But I haven't heard anything back since."

    Katie Mulrennan

Katie Mulrennan received the reply after she applied for a job teaching English in Seoul

    'Your kind'

The teacher had emailed the application when a job was advertised on listings website Craigslist in September.

She told the agency that she had been teaching English for over three years, in Barcelona, Oxford and Abu Dhabi as well as South Korea.

Last week, she received a reply that said: "I am sorry to inform you that my client does not hire Irish people due to the alcoholism nature of your kind".

Ms Mulrennan said she did not know who the recruiter was as their details were not listed on the site.

However she has reported the advertisement to Craigslist.

"It was disappointing because these employers did not even get to see me," she said. "They never spoke to me and didn't get a chance to hear what I sounded like."

The English teacher has since found a job and said that she can laugh about what happened.

"I was annoyed about it. But I can also see it was a little bit hilarious as well. A friend saw it and encouraged me to post it online as it might go viral.

"I thought: 'Really? It's just another silly thing poking fun at Irish people'. But then I put it online and people started getting in touch.

"I still love the country and being in Seoul."

    WTF?! :o

    Ippy?

  5. Oops! Too late for that john-san.....I'm afraid there are whole generations of kids from Yokohama to Sapporo who are running round skimping on their hotel choices.....perhaps they need to be is censed and apologise issue?!

I assume the word "whole" means a single amount and the word generations is plural which means more then one. Can you used those two word in the same context? I thought my English was bad but I am Australian. What is your excuse and you teach the subject. Perhaps you need censoring and apologise issued then dismiss from trying to teach English.

$180 for 5 star accommodation in the middle of Tokyo to most people is a bargain. Compare to other Major Cities for 5 star accommodation you be looking at $450 plus.

so now its 5* accommodation, perhaps your pretend aussie passport didn't inform you that to claim a bargain for 5* you have to actually say that its 5*…..regardless, this poorly spoken english teacher STILL wouldn't consider it a bargain since he would never stay in 5* accommodation in the first place……..so, not to harp on, but its as I said in my original post……….it depends on your idea of a bargain. Sheesh, John-san just read what's written on the screen.

(for the record…."whole generations" means the entire populace of many generations. If I meant one generation, I'd say "A whole generation of")

  6. How clever are you? Racist stereotypes! Nice one John-san.

Dunno if u are aware of the pretend salaries that ALT's get in this country, but it's not enough to consider 180 shekels a night as being "a bargain". Perhaps being an all knowing Nagano-living, 100% Aussie who doesn't ever insult the ancestors of Adam Goodes and has lots of industry friends, pays better.....maybe I'll change jobs
