  1. Quote: if I had a car I'd probably be more inclined to drive to the resorts in Gunma or other places closer to Tokyo. Unless there are four or five of you a car is usually the most expensive way to get out of Tokyo. Depending on where you live they can also be the slowest. Cars are good if you're going for a few days but for day trips from Tokyo, I'd definitely shink or bus it.
  2. Gala Yuzawa! Last year Wednesday was ladies day so free cake for us lasses - not sure about this year. Anyway, this week is cheap week (if it would just snow..) 6500yen weekdays and 9900 at the weekend - return shink and lift pass. It's 1000yen for a locker if you need one and the food will set you back another two grand. Take turkey sandwiches and mince pies and sit in one of the disused gondula cars near the bottom of the half pipe for lunch... Check out http://www.jtbsun.com/sunFormTour_list.asp?PAGE=SN9

By the way how do you make these messages say the "originally quoted by" bit automatically?
  6. The Yuzawa snow gods might have heard the plans. Check out Yuzawa Now. Not enough to ski on yet but if we drink enough vodka on Friday...
  7. Is she Japanese? How about a denshi jisho?
  8. A few days ago someone mentioned doing a snowdance - sorry I forgot who. Anyway thought it might be a good idea to organise one...so here's the plan. This Friday, 4th Dec at 10pm, wherever your are, making sure you have a vodka in one hand, dance around while singing or listening to Shakin' Stevens' "Merry Christmas Everyone". Here are the words: Snow is falling all around me, children playing, having fun, it's the season of love and understanding, Merry Christmas everyone (x2) Actually I only know the chorus so we'll have to keep the dance short. After you finish dancing, c
  9. About the antibiotics thing... I "teach English" to doctors and, while admitting that money was a factor, they said that the antibiotics are given to prevent secondary bacterial infections developing when the body's immune system is low with the early stages of the virus. So there you have it...hmmm.
