  1. soubriquet if your girlfriend ever wants to unload a car for cheap let me know
  2. Well I was given the bomb that I currently drive, so I can't complain, but shakken is up in May so I wouldn't mind a 4wd of some sort, just need to keep my ears open for someone else wanting to get rid of their car
  3. I can't see the photo, but it seems that others can, strange? any ideas?
  4. Well I thought I would try and start a snow predictions page, I don't personally know much about reading weather maps etc, but if anyone out there does please add to this thread Acounding to the forecast we should get a little snow in Nagano in the next 3 days and also Hokkaido 5cm Hakuba, 6cm Nozawa, 15cm Niseko Lots of rain today in Nagano, but still too warm
  5. on the topic of season passes and the Nagano snowlove pass, does anyone actually know of anyone who has gotten this pass? I hate to be a skeptic but I was just wondering how fair this cometition actually is i.e. if the passes go to the organizers friends and/or they don't give it to foriegners I'm still going to try my luck again this year, I'm just interested to know that's all.
  6. Australia is expensive $84 for a day ticket, probably about 7500yen, to me Japan is cheap,
  7. Well last season I hoped on 60 ended up going 50 this season maybe about the same, somewhere between 60 and 80 would be nice. Unfortunately I'm working lots more than last year, but last year I had to go home for a few weeks mid season too. most weeks I should be able to go 4 times when life doesn't get in the way
  8. Um well for me not normally, I will still normally go if the weather is bad as long as the lifts aren't closed. I live in Nagano city though so its only an hour's drive to the major areas, maybe be different if I lived in Tokyo or Osaka or somewhere like that. Having said that living that far away from the snow would kill me
  9. mmm, I hope to buy a Nozawa season pass again, still waiting for the new mob to update the website, haven't got anything in the mail yet which I'm a bit dissapointed with but I spoze they have their hands full at the moment with change of ownership etc.
  10. Thredbo, Perisher Just kidding, but seriously these places have to be the worst on my list. Although being in my home country, I don't have much choice. That is when (or if) I return, but one thing is for sure if I do return it wont be for the snow and only on the condition I can ski outside Aus on a regular basis 30mins wait for a 3min rock hopping MAX run, hidoi na
  11. Nozawa has a station 15mins away by a shuttle bus, very easy, I did it the first month of this season before I got a car, easy to to day trip from Nagano City. Timetables on their website
  12. Well Ive had a bit of a slow start so far too, was crook for a week and couldn't go christmas and new year and a day either side. So I've only been 13 times to date, hoping on at least 60. But If my dream job plans kick in, I should be able to ski 6 days a week, therefore if this dream does come a reality, I may even get close to 100. here's to the dream becoming a reality
  13. Despite your bad experience at the onsen, I go there about 4 times a week and it is normally plesent. You will find cranky old bastards anywhere, the solution would have been just to change onsens, there are enough for everyone in the town. Enjoy Nozawa, It is my home away from home in Japan, If only I could find a way to buy it, mmmm (I'm an Aussie by the way-talking about the previous comment, but just not a rich one) Just for curiosity does anyone know what it will go for?
  14. Karizawa is apparently opening on the 30th of October, but probably with all manmade snow, thats about all I know
  15. Andy, When are u heading over, I have similar aspirations and am heading over on sunday, equipted with my skis and a working holiday visa
  16. The coldest I have ever felt in my life was when some mates and I lined up to get into Cowboys (a Pub/Nightclub) in Calgary. We had to wait outside in -35C for around half an hour. I had a ski jacket on but still unbelievablely cold. We were tempted to go home many times but it was bicardifest, and for those that have been it is not to be missed. But the girls must have been close to death, many had little mini skirts and mid drift tops. They were dresssed like they were going to the beach on a hot Aussie day. Silly Girls
  17. Hi, I'm planning on going to Japan in a month or two to ski and teach english for a year or so. I'm thinking about working PT for nova in Nagano(5-9 mon-fri), and ski during the day. has anyone else done this?, does anyone know of a better place to stay other than Nagano and if you have taught english what schools are located near the resorts (eg in Hakuba, or Nozawa would be fantastic!!) Thanks for your help
  18. According to TR Reid- Happo one 175ha, Nozawa Onsen 278ha, however See my recent post about size confusion. I'm not sure that this is correct because sources I have read about these resorts say that they are quite large however these sizes here are half the size of thredbo and 1/6 the size of Perisher, hardly seem big to me. these 2 are on my hit list when I go over in a couple of months
  19. Hi, I'm very confused. I have been doing some research into ski resorts in Japan as I'm hopefully going over there in a couple of months for a year or so. Anyway I'm confused about the size of ski resorts in japan. For example I emailed shiga kogen and they have told me there resort is 400ha, TR Reid's book also says Shiga is 400ha. everywhere I read raves about the massive size of shiga, twice the size of vail(which is evidently 2140hectares)..... 400 hectares seems small to me. However twice the size of vail (4280ha) seems massive, so why is everywhere saying shiga is 400ha? and i
