  1. well yeh, of course you can carry it, I've done so, but I prefer wheels, really lightens the load, makes me feel more relaxed, especially after a night flight or jetlagged flight, and also helps prevent further back discomfort from 9-12 hour flights (I'm probably not as hefty as you are). Some of those walks are pretty long between the plane and immigration and I'm often overweight or close to when returning from overseas so I often put as much heavy stuff as I can get away with in my carry-on. (I don't carry stuff the way that woman does by the way, tee hee!)
  2. Yes, no more need to travel cos we can go anywhere virtually - perfect with the current high oil prices! Thanks Google!
  3. In the days of old before laptops and big cameras, etc, perhaps that was so....
  4. Can't you fly from Sendai to Tokyo and do it that way, saving time? Even if that means travelling from Haneda to Narita?
  5. I always take a bag with wheels on the plane - yes, macbook, and cams etc do add up..!
  6. owch, glad I'm not passing thru England this summer....
  7. Looks like the airfares haven't caught up with the stronger dollar. Not that they're likely to lower them (fuel/taxes excluded for this part of the discussion of course). It's cheaper to fly to Oz from Japan, (major J holidays excepted.)
  8. Sounds like she's got a good attitude to it all. Sending good vibes to you both.
  9. Haven't heard/seen them around my way for a long long time. I was hoping they died out, but sounds like they're still around in other places.

  11. Thanks again, guys. I guess the first thing to do would be to get the car owner to see if he can add it to his insurance, and then look at the options if they won't do it. Fatty I'll drop you a line, I dont' know phat luv's address.
  12. thanks everyone for the replies, I have to dash out the door right now, I'll write more later. By the way - Aussie residents, thanks, but Japan is a different kettle of fish when it comes to all kinds of things (such as this), so unfortunately your advice can't really help me.
  13. I'm going to be using someone's car for awhile, he said his insurance mightn't cover any accidents if I'm driving (if he's not in the car) - ie - it seems the driver is insured, not the car. Is that the case? And if so, how do I get insurance (who do I contact)? If not, how does it all work? Thanks.
  14. Since we're paying out all this extra why are they hinting at hiking up the sales tax (to pay for the aging population) too?
  15. That's great. It's taken a long time. At the same time it's a shame that it's taken such a long time, but at least it's starting to happen.
  16. Even still, I have also seen the other side of the story - I know two mothers who had post natal depression - one seemed to freak out - took the child and suddenly left her guy (they seemed to be a very happy couple beforehand). The other, when I saw her not long after her first child, told me she resented being a mother, because she had to give up a creative career in film production. She said she had mainly had kids cos her husband really wanted them, and she resented that her husband was still going out doing creative work every day (granted he was working his butt off doing it to suppo
  17. Ibaraki, interesting. They have an international airport there? (more fingerprinting machines to be manifested).
  18. Reading what you've written, I'd like to point out if it's not too late you can always abort if you decide you don't want it. Of course that's another decision in itself, but I personally believe there are definitely situations when that's a better idea. (not that I've ever had a baby or an abortion myself).
  19. I've looked everywhere but can't figure out how to turn it off, anyone? thanks.
