  1. And thanks, life seems to be settling down again, with lots of music on the boil
  2. Yeh Soubs, better weather next time, eh! If I'm ever up your way again I'll be sure to let you know!
  3. Hey, I'm so glad to hear about your boys, Soub!
  4. I think JAL has been pretty constant with miles. Getting on a flight is another story though, but can be done, as I have proven a few times now.
  5. I'm doing my summer trip on JAL miles this year, thankfully. It's costing me about 45,000 yen in surcharges, which is pretty high compared to what it probably was last year. But way better than paying for a flight in full. Very glad I could get seats this year. I tried to get a JAL miles flight last summer but even in April seats were unavailable, so I had to pay the full costs.
  6. I've heard that after a period of time (maybe 5 years?????) unless it's absolutely trashed (burned down????) it's called 'wear and tear' and legally landlords shouldn't be able to keep any of that money for repairs. Of course it's probably not contested much. I've been in my apartment for about 10 years, so I will test it when I eventually move out one day. The company who own my building always try and get as much back as possible or more, including 3man cleaning fee. I don't mind the cleaning fee cos they've been very helpful in general, but the rest, I know they'll rip up the carpets and ta
  7. They have to leave the light on at night, otherwise all those emergency phone users wouldn't realise there's a phone there.
  8. lol on the dialup! I don't even know what my connection is, except that it's Flets ADSL.... but as I said, the rest of my internet life is just fine speedwise...
  9. I watched them backwards 6 - the only one that ran all the way thru without stopping 5 - stalled half way thru, buffered then continued 4 - stalled twice, buffered and continued first time, buffered 2nd time but didn't continue (with 41 secs to go), so I guess you could say it got stuck there. 3 - stalled half way thru, buffered and then continued 2 - stalled twice, buffered and continued each time. 1 - went and made a cuppa while waiting for it to load. stalled 3 times, the last time got stuck ie - it didn't continue playing after rebuffering. The higher up in the list (i
  10. lots of hormones also coming from hormone-enhanced animal meat and milk.
  11. buy the smaller sized (cheaper) ipod touch and you'll have wireless.
  12. I got bumped up to PE on a flight to Paris last summer. Very nice indeed. Got the comfort pack but still got cattle class food (I always order a special meal, usually better than the regular stuff).
  13. Update - turns out that as a first time renewer I had to go to a license office and sit thru a 2 hour lecture including a 20 min (or so) video. I sneakily wore my stealth in-ear phones connected to hidden iTouch which made it more bearable, though there were points where I felt like I wasn't going to be able to stay awake!

In this example, the gullible are those Apple are gouging in Japan. You can connect to the US store? Don't you need a US credit card for that? I've never bought any regular music from iTunes, only th
  15. Thanks Black Mountain, I'll do that. Yowch SJ, those fines are nasty!
  16. I found the location of a big cop shop about 10 min drive away, so that's where I'll wind up going - though I haven't received any renewal mail yet and it's due on the 23rd... Might have to call them up if I don't get anything soon.
  17. no infringements so it should be straightforward. I've never been able to figure out the speeding thing. So they do have speed cameras here. And 'stealth' too! Driving on the shutoko no-one is going 60, but I've never seen a cop chasing anyone....
  18. haha Hey, thanks for all the replies.... I think I'll take my iPod and sneak my stealth earbuds on if I have to sit through some boring movies.... only in Japan, eh! Hmmmm, maybe I'll drive to the registry instead of the police, sounds like it might be a bit quicker, and I don't even know where the nearest big copshop is, let alone if I can park there (might be 2 or even 3 trains if I'm not driving!). Rob - what paperwork do I need? I assume I get that done at wherever I renew and they'll take a photo while I"m there. Do they do another eye test, that's all I had to do last t
  19. Hi all you J drivers, My J driver's license if up for it's first renewal later this month. What's the best way to renew? I was going to go to the motor registry (a hassle) but then someone said you can do it at any big police station (I guess koban is a no). Is that an easy way to do it, or is the registry better? I guess the cops take the photo there? Thanks.
  20. I got it on Sunday coming from Narita to Nippori, it took 41 mins, not 36 (ran correct to the timetable at that). Really nice and speedy thru the chiba rice paddies, only slows down once it hits the shared track.
  21. nice, I took pics of that from the plane coming in yesterday, if I'm not to lazy/busy I'll post some later.
  22. I know that artist personally, very cool guy, 100% authentic, davidkassan.com That painting demo was originally streamed online live to a group of people.
  23. yes, I'm sure it goes up quickly without you realising!
  24. Just found out Asahi-net have started a wireless connection service for 380 yen a month (first two months free no obligation trial) for Asahi members. I use them for my net connection so I will probably try that. Not quite as comprehensive as using a foma connection but doesn't require a docomo internet connection, so a lot cheaper, handier for the light user.
