I was thinking maybe close, maybe in Gunma or yuzawa area of Niigata. I heard KAgura is a good place.

I live in Saitama, just to the north of Tokyo. This will be my first winter in Japan and I'm soooo excited about checking out the snow here. Anyone recommend my first resort to go to. I'd say I was somewhere higher than a beginner, still learning but having fun. I'd like a place that is fairly big, impressive looking, good snow, good views. Where should I go???? Thanks all!

Count me in too! I'm in Saitama, so it looks like my haunts will be Gunma, Niigata and Nagano. So excited.
