What I want to know is... where do you run to? From what I remember, those Niigata folk on here were talking about freezing to the spot when the big big one hit them last year and not being able to move. Is this hiding under a table thing not realistic or what?

Pass pulling resorts
SKI replied to brit-gob's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I think I remember a thread some time ago where someone was saying "there's no way they'd take a pass off me". Anyone here feel like that? And what would you do.... fight? -

Go on... do it! Perhaps making it as controversial as possible. -
Sprinklers
SKI replied to grungy-gonads's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
In my experience of both, I'd say Yuzawa copes better with huge snowfalls than Hakuba. How much that has to do with sprinklers I don't know. -

Do you want me to start a new "ducking ropes" thread or similar? -
Kagura Mistumata
SKI replied to dizzy's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Yeah, not very steep. It is by no means the flattest skiing I have experienced. There are a few good slopes, and the snow is usually really excellent over there. -

Lucky guy. You wouldn't want to come back down after that though, perhaps it's better not knowing -
Kagura Mistumata
SKI replied to dizzy's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I usually do Mitsumata. Tashiro is further and seem to take longer. If it's windy up there it's not fun and the slopes are not very steep. Good snow though. -

February 3, 2005 - Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced the North American launch date and pricing structure for its anticipated PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld. The device, which launched in Japan last year, is set to debut in the US and Canada on March 24 for suggested retail prices of $249 USD and $299.99 CND respectively. Unlike the Japanese launch, which offered a base PSP package for approximately $185 USD, North American buyers will only be able to get one bundle, the pricier PSP Value Pack. The good news is that the Pack comes standard with a good number of

Only go to Hakkai if you are feeling real genki and got lots of energy and your knees are feeling good. (Like the beer!) -

Definitely down on normal from what I have seen. How much that has got to do with wobbly ground or not I don't know. -

Safety on the slopes
SKI replied to Bertie's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
The patrol seem to get bashed by some people for simply existing. I'm not sure how some people know exactly what the patrol do all day (perhaps they are watching them all the time?) I'm all for the patrol stopping people from doing things that they shouldn't be doing. Isn't that how many accidents happen anyway? I just think it would help if people actually knew exactly what the patrol was doing before bashing them. -
Resorts that offer good food
SKI replied to blinkin'ek's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
It sure looked (and smelled) good Yamakashi. Theu cook it right there you can watch them prepare it. According to their website, the place is called "Katchan". -
Resorts that offer good food
SKI replied to blinkin'ek's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
After reading about the changes in Kandatsu, our group decided to check it out. Seems they are really putting some emphasis on offering good food, not ski-jo food. We were sceptical, but were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. They've got some famous Tokyo restaurants up there (and some popular Hiroshima okonomiyaki restaurant?) and the food really was very un-ski-jo like. The only problem they seem to have is that it takes too long. With it all being made on ordering they give you a number and give you a call when you're food is ready. Took us about 10 minutes to get ours. No pr -
Irregularly, but it probably works out at a couple of times a month.

I think you guys with insurance of around 20000 might be surprised at what you're not covered for. I'd check up if I were you.
