No I'm not Japanese. I don't do long stay and usually stay with friends anyway, so I don't know about all that lot. Have you actually tried contacting accommodations with as much effort as you have asking everyone here?

1) It's part of Naeba resort, but 400m up the road from the main resort. Even Naeba aren't too clear about communicating this, but it's classified as part of Naeba. It's season is shorter than the main Naeba hill though (late Dec - early Apr). 2) If you are buying a season pass for Naeba then, Naeba, perhaps - simply because you won't want the 20-40 minute ride every day to Mitsumata/Naeba. 3) In Japan? Over 10 years.

Do you prefer to be bored to tears? (I sure would for 4 months in Naeba).

I'd get bored there as well. If you are coming for so long, why not do 3 or 4 places and have extended stays in each? That's what I'd do.

For lots of people Naeba is a better place than Kagura. I would classify Kagura as being 'over-rated' myself. It depends on what you want.

My first resort was Suginohara in Myoko. It's still one of my favorites.

My friends used Sugiyama for their kids and themselves and were very pleased. They are on sj here: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/sugiyama-ski-and-snowsports-school.html I'd try contacting them and/or your accommodation.

There were stories, yes. I don't know if the nude race down Echoland was true though...

It has been nearly 2 years since they filed for bankrupcy... someone took over so you'd think they were at least keeping it ticking over in terms of maintenance.

Some people are so rude it is unbelievable. Just had one example. The old 'toushi' sales call. All very friendly and I politely (very politely) told the guy that I and my company is not interested in it, then he said that he just wanted some time as he was in the area in the next week blah blah blah. Would not shut up. I told him again that I simply was not interested and said arigatou gozaimasu and before I got to the gozaimasu bit I heard the phone being slammed down. I know, I should perhaps be less polite myself, but by default I'd rather be that than grumpy and rude myself.

I went this season. Peak of the season the snow was superb. It was very quiet. Even though most of the slopes are not very challenging I like Sugadaira. Friends with a lodge owner over there and always have a good time when I go. Didn't notice any big changes at all by the way.

They didn't need that market back in the 80's. Do they need it now? Is Niseko showing that they do? These are all interesting questions.
