  1. Some of you might use "usenet" sometimes (also called Newsgroups). The world-wide skiing discussion group, rec.skiing.alpine has had trouble for a few years, and right now a vote is being taken to form a Moderated version of the group. For the group to get up, many votes are needed. If you can spare a minute of your net-time, please go to http://www.uvv.org/cgi-bin/getmsg/1680 and scroll down to the voting form at the bottom, it's very simple (needs a "real" email address though for voting confirmation). We thank you for your help!
  2. too late, I'd already emailed, same email addy. Hmmm, interesting info on the snow japan page though. It's foreigner-owned...interesting. Well, we'll see if he replies. It sure is hard tracking down instructing jobs over in Japan!
  3. Well, I've zotted something off to NAC. We'll see. I am not sure that I'm adventurous enough to just "turn up" and be a freelancer! And too old to score a working holiday visa. (totters off with walking stick - that's why i ski, you get poles to lean on!).
  4. Don't keep us in suspense! How do we get in touch with these people? (I'm desperate to avoid being stuck back in an office this summer, thanx to the US visa timing changes).
  5. The pass: very small! Very high and it's deeper into the main range than any other hill, so it gets more snow and better quality. Never experienced rain until late August this year. But, the runs are very short, the terrain is not challening at all, although you can find a little bit of everything. Its strength is it is never crowded, access to the resort is limited by number of seats in teh snowcats, which are the only access to the resort. The village is small and compact, with The Chalet as the focal point. Incredibly safe for kids, they can go off and do what kids do without supervis
  6. Yeah, I'm getting that impression too! Fair enough, really. I learned conversational Japanese in 83, but lost it just as quickly! Buller eh? Nice hill, how did you find it? I was at CP...we got a lot of excellent snow.
  7. Agree re hardcore terrain! Although if you took them for a beer, they might surprise you. We went on one of those tours when in Fernie (Canada)in 97 (god what an epic snow year!). They took us around the main runs, all very nice. Then, on one of the lower connector runs, there was A Moose! I thought, oh, beauty, a cow with antlers. But the Canadian hosts got very nervous and cautious...apparently these things are dangerous. It sure had a nasty expression on its face.
  8. I have looked back a little way and can't see this topic. Anyone have experience or opinions to share on working teaching skiing in Japan? I've missed the boat for my work visa for the US this year and so am looking further afield. Do they ever sponsor qualified people, or do you have to have the holiday working visa (I'm too old!).
  9. Me too, aussie that is. Just coming to the end of the season, going for one last lift-served ski before they turn everything off...
