Be Polite to your hosts
powwwers replied to thursday's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry

Respect your hosts • Learn a few simple Japanese words before arriving as a little can go a long way. • Remove your shoes when entering homes and some restaurants. • Be polite and courteous to shop owners and accommodation managers. • Rowdy behaviour in public places such as onsens, bars, restaurants and lift lines will not be tolerated. • Chopsticks etiquette: Do not hold the chopsticks between your teeth, use your chopsticks like drumsticks, stand your cho -

Good post!! To the average punter it doesn`t make much difference. But the more advanced at riding/skiing you become, I believe it does. It also depends on what you wanna get out of your riding/skiing. I`m believe in giving yourself every chance. Like FT said, "...depends on the type of skiing..." I have my board tuned/waxed after every session. When I enter boardX, my board is tuned after every heat. I`m pretty fortunate that I`ve become friends with the dude who owns the local board store. He sponsors/supports a few riders and I enter the same races he attends. Choosing the right wax ca

yeah nige, think it was part o`tha red bull thingy. he doesn`t give the exact location (other than Wakayama)but i`m tippin it`s no `secret spot`. he did however say, "They`re the biggest waves I`ve ever ridden." and comin from TC, thats a fair call. who cares if they`re not `perfect`. BIG wave riding waves are never really gonna be clean and shaped the way you`re local break is/gets. there`s no way you`re gonna get a nice `glass out` with that amount of water moving around and the winds at near gale force. (the closest thing i`ve seen is Tahiti) which just adds to tha fact that they are FRE

You can get it at Jusco. same here soubs, i`ve been hookin into these of late too. if you don`t know much about wine then you`re probly not gonna know the difference between cask wine and some bottled wine. also depends on who you`re inviting to dinner and whether or not you`re out to impress

Steve 'crocodile hunter' Irwin dead

"If you can`t say anything nice about someone/something, don`t say anything at all." I`m a big believer in not saying anything `bad` about peeps who are no longer in the Breathing Arena. For starters, they have no right of reply. It`s okay to have thoughts or an opinion but what is gained by airing them/it. Found this article interesting: http://blogs.theage.com.au/thedailytruth/archives/2006/09/crocodile_tears.html -

Annoying experience on the way to Narita
powwwers replied to oo's topic in General off-topic discussions
thats nah good oo, totally sympathise with your feelings. i think most (non-japanese) people who live in this island nation have experienced something similar at one stage or another. i just try and put it down to `experience`. try not to dwell on it and keep in mind that not all japanese are like him. story: today i went for lunch to a chain ramen shop. it was pretty chokkers. i made me way to the counter and sat patiently waiting to have my order taken. about 5min. had passed when another customer walks in and sits two seats away and waits patiently also. about another 5min. elapsed whe -

went to mos burger last weekend. thats not the funny part! but just when i thought i`d seen almost everything... went to the toilet and they had a "Flush Sound" button. gave it a go and the stupid thing went for 25 seconds. apparently its so you don`t get embarassed by `sounds` you may make while `going`. had a good old belly-laugh at that one!! -
