  1. I guess you fellows have a little more practical experience with this sort of thing than I do... but... I was told early on here that - As a Gaijin - don't ever get you butt arrested for as much as jaywalking here... I think another thread spoke about this once.... So, If the aforementioned is in any way close to accurate and it comes down to a "your word against theirs" senario with regard to unlawful confinment / tresspass / assault issue then how tough are you gonna be after a month in jail persona-nongratta and a quick deportation hearing... I don't think it takes much to get deported
  2. Joules, Sapporo Kokusai unofficially opened last Saturday the 9th and will open officially this Saturday for full opperations (??) this Saturday the 16th... I could not go, but a local teleskier who works for a large sports store did and said the snow was like mid January... I now have plans to go there on the 28th with a group of friends...

But let me just say this... Oh yah... Well, I'm rubber and you're glue and everthing you say bounces off me and sticks to you.... NAaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh....... I did not mean to insult anyone with my veiws and this is why I am a little puzzled by your post Deebee... Quite frankly I kinda agree with your thoughts on the matter... Hummmmmm... BTW - Silly? I sure hope so - it's the only thing keeping m
  4. Ok.. I'll risk it and weigh in on this one... I, for the most part, agree with the point of veiw that most of the J-resort business planners would appear to be a bunch of dolts..... I have been made to believe, in my short tenure here, that too many decisions in business in Japan are made simply "because" or "because that's the way things are" - back to the shikataganai(sp?) thread... And this would apprear, from first flush, to be why resorts can't open in response to an "Opportunity" having been created for them by the weather gods.... I also understand the arguements bas
  5. With regard to my footbeds... I got new Comformable top of the line ones made - retail around 13,000 yen or so... I was lucky because with all the equipment that I purchased they threw in the footbeds and a few other things for free.... With Comformable - if the guy doing the fitting is a "Sidas Certified Pro Fitter" then Sidas Guarantee the Fit is right or will redo / replace them.... I would gladly recommend the fellow who fit mine as I feel he did a good job and seemed to take his time to make things just right... but alas he is in Sapporo... Cheers..
  6. Woke up this morning to rain which rapidly turned into a snow storm in Sapporo... Don't know how long it will last but.. you know what this means in the Mountains~~~~~~~
  7. Well we should consider ourselves lucky... I spoke to my oldest son last night, who went up to Whistler for a weekend of debouchery before the season starts.... Apparently October was the driest October in recorded history in the Vancouver / Lower Mainland area... as a result - No snow in Whistler village and none on any of the lower slopes whatsoever.... So, looks like we are positioned right geographically this season so far anyways... On another note - the official website says Sapporo Kokusai will open on the 9th with the "official" opening on the 16th.... Current
  8. Nice Cheese... but you must admit that our hosts here in Japan really don't know what "good" cheese is... Coming from Canada we are sooooo spoiled with the cheap and abundant cheeses.... Aged Cheddar.. Jalapenio Monterrey Jack.... Peppered smoked cheese... (I know hard to light... ha ha)
  9. I am the first to admit that I have bad lower leg foot alignment problems, so... I have done a lot of research on this subject as technology has developed.... Firstly, Footbeds are designed to correct static stance problems - How flat your feet are on the ground, How aligned your ankles are, How your foot is supported in the arch and so forth... A good footbed - doctor made or pro ski shop done - should correct all of these things but it is not designed to correct dynamic alignment problems... It can help by putting your foot in the right place to start with as half of dynamic alignment p
  10. If you come to Sapporo this year check out " The Grand Vin " wine shop at B2 @ Robinson's Dept. stoer in Susukino... Great selection of "everything" from inexpensive Cali / Au / Fr. / Ital. right up to "very" expensive..... I think you'd be quite impressed for such a selection out here in the wilderness.... I have not seen a store like this anywhere outside of Vancouver or San Francisco... and then there is only two or three....
  11. Good Morning Kids, Here's your Tuesday morning fix.. Almost Cold in Sapporo - Today's High 9 degrees.. THE BASE OF NISEKO HIRAFU
  12. There are several shops all close to the downtown Tanuki Koji 3 & 4 Chome area... There is about 3 snowboard specialty places and about 6 general sports shops... There is one in particular that has a good english speaker... If you would like more detail let me know... Are you visiting Sapporo or staying here?? Let me know - would be glad to help...
  13. Sam... that was the point.. take care of your feet because they are so important... Can't make a specific comment about anyones pains and aches - even doctors have problems with that.. but was just trying to say that in most sports your feet are usually both important and highly neglected at the same time.. The bananas comment refers to the high concentration of naturally occuring potassium in them... they used to work great for staving off calf craps the evening after racing motocross..
  14. Unfortunately almost everything that goes on in your body has to do with "being fit".... but.. the expression has many meanings... in this case the elasticity of tendons and ligiments "does" have a relationship to being fit... when you are fit you muscles hold your joints and bones together better - hence "strong quads = strong knees" - better fitness means better circulation and blood flow to muscles tendons and ligiments and therefore leads to better fitness of those individual parts... the usual problem with feet is in all those bones and maybe some of them being out of
  15. Chances are, if you return to Whistler you might not be back if it blows you wad to get there... Whistler will always have the need for instructors year after year.. I guess the question is - Are you ready to leave Japan?
  16. Eat Bananas for the potassium and get some footbeds for your feet... If you want your feet to cooperate with you on long days then beds are the place to start... Getting comfy boots doesn't mean much without good beds - I swear by comformable...
  17. For those of you who know your Italian reds I brought three bottles with me from Canada which I will open some day for an appropriate occasion... 1 bottle of 1986 Antonori Solia 1 bottle of 1986 Taurino Notarpanaro & 1 bottle of 1991 Brunello di Montalcino - Castello Banfi I have found a good supply of Antonori Solia and Sassacia here in Sapporo but..... whewww it's expensive.... still just finding it is a triumph
  18. For a cheap but acceptable red wine ( 1000 yen ) If you're just having a glass or two with no meal then try Robert Mondavi Woodbridge Zinfadel or with a meat meal Woodbridge Cabernet Sav.... For your white winers - there is also a Chardonney and a Savignon Blanc... But I never touch the white, so you're on your own.. The Zin is a good everyday drinker - not too tanic but nice and woody with a hint of pepper and the Cab is almost like a good Tuscan Cab... Best results from these two are yeilded with letting the bottle breath for 1/2 hr to 45 min. before first glass... you'l
  19. Raury... Sorry, didn't follow this thread for awhile... The other 35+ would be me, I believe. I'll be 42 this December.
  20. Bought '03 Phenix FIS 3D World Cup Jacket and Bibs a few weeks ago... Once I found my size I snatched it up - there was only 2 that big... I bought mine the 2nd day they were on the shelf and the other one went the following week which made me think my decision was a good one..
