  1. I have an outdoor area of about 10sqm that is currently concrete, and some tiles 30x30cm. I want them on that area. But finding the prices I am being quoted for the world to be a bit ridiculous. So I'm actually thinking of doing it myself. Looking at some vids on youtube, it seems to be something I could do. Anyone ever done work like this? Any tips on this sort of thing?
  2. I can't remember the name and don't know Niigata city, but it seems it is an expensive housing area with excellent links to transport etc. I suppose those things are important to lots of people. Still, makes me realise how 'cheap' our land was.
  3. I have bee reading up on this since this thread started. Like the idea of something like Zoolz. Fir a cost like that you can't go wrong really.
  4. Met a friend for the first time in quite a few years over the weekend. We were talking about houses and land. His land, in Niigata City, cost 500,000 yen per tsubo! Can hardly believe it. 10 times the cost of ours! AND, I would much rather live where we live!
  5. Had some nasty ones but yes generally I like them a lot too.
  6. All over my head. Must be getting old. I don't feel I'm missing out on much (actually, anything) though.
  7. I was thinking that in winter I'll disconnect and put it in the garage....no need for water then anyway.
  8. When we bought curtains I was very clear that I wanted them to not be 'see-through' like the ones in her parents house. They are still perhaps not quite as totally light blocking as I would like, but do a good job at keeping a room quite dark even in the daytime. If you so wish of course! Don't like being woken up by light earlier than I want to wake up.
  9. It's neverending development over there! They must wish they could just take a few moments to rest and enjoy all the success.
  10. That seems very odd. I'm presuming there's no rules like that here!! It's ordered anyway. One that looks quite nice rather than a goddam awful hulking plastic green box etc. I think it will pay for itself in saved water.
  11. Still young, Tubby! Not sure I'd be able to manage all that.
  12. File under "don't really think about it when making a house" (well, I didn't). Get a water tank to collect rain water from the roof drains. You can still add one later, like I am planning on, but would have probably been better to do up front.
  13. I am always disappointed with entails and the like. Never has there been any good gossip or shenanigans, as far as I know. All a bit too dull!
  14. I am really quite jealous of people who can go about life outside without sweating like crazy in the humidity and quickly looking and feeling like a bit of a mess. Lots of Japanese seem to manage very admirably with it.
  15. It would be a decent policy in our office. As long as it's under 50's only.
  16. Do you grow the rhubarb, snowdude? What is it in Japanese?
  17. The heat in the day is making a long hot bath less desirable now.....onto showers.
  18. I still can't believe that many people have their aircons on to 28 degrees in the summer heat.
  19. I ordered that stone thingy and it came today. Looks great. Quite light but it looks heavy. Comes in 5 pieces and you just put them on top of each other - they 'fit' nicely. A good buy I think.
  20. Yeah the orangey photos didn't look as good to me, I prefer grey/white. This shape is a bit nicer too, well I like it. Always a bit of worry when you buy something without seeing it. ( See "Stonehenge" )
