  1. Clearly we need less games so our national team can flourish.

They should simply reduce the number of teams in the premier league. Theres no money in those crappy Birmingham vs Wigan games anyway. They could cut 6 teams from the league and I think it would be better for it, it would be closer and more dramatic.

  2. I'd agree with that, thursday ^^.

At first I was into Clinton as she has been very active with online campaigning and I found it interesting from a professional point of view.

But seeing Clinton and Obama speak, I have been won over by Obama. He is a far superior speaker. I don't buy into his big message of 'change' though, I think its just hot air.

I know nothing about their politics however, and havent even seen McCain speak. But he looks very very grey and ordinary.

  3. I think other governments are more careful with their money.

The JET programme is an incredible waste of money, unless the true purpose is not teaching English but (for want of a better term) inter-breeding. They target fresh grads so there is probably something in that.

More likely it was just some guys idea 25 years ago and, Japan being Japan, no-one now stops to consider if it is actually worthwhile or not.

  4. Yes its totally different now.

When I was around 13 I lived opposite Highbury and used to go to loads of games, sometimes I'd pay (junior gunner discount) but most times I just went in when they opened the gate for early leavers (about 15mins into second half). The atmosphere was just amazing in the north bank back then, your ears would hurt from everyone chanting at the top of their voice. Football really lost something (as a live spectacle) when it went all seater - they really need to get standing room going again by limiting it to a small section behind the goal and actually policing it properly).

  5. One thing I find interesting here is that Japanese are really force fed 'kaigai' from schools and TV. Flick through the channels and theres always at least one program on where some Japanese is in Hawaii or whatever and demonstrating their strange foriegn customs.

On the surface, you would think this makes for a very broadminded outlook towards foreigners, but actually all it does is reinforce the 'us and them' attitude.

On a different note, I have been told by a few different Japanese that 'gaijin' basically means 'oubeijin' (US/Europeans) and that other foreigners (e.g. SE Asians) are considered as something different. Not sure what they call those guys those.

  6. Ah actually I was only joking, tonight I'm having authentic Burmese curry - my friends wife is Burmese.

I just felt like someone should stick up for the regular guy who doesn't eat cavier on veal every night \:\)

...I do have some baked beans though, nasty too-sweet American ones from COSTCO, almost inedible.
