  1. Maybe when you get to about 45 or 50 those places become more attractive. Ive seen websites for soaplands where they show photos of the girls they have - they all look tired or manky in some way, completely non-appealing. I guess attractive girls know they can do better by getting a rich boyfriend or being a hostess.

  2. I dont like to be harsh, but there are some people on there that you can describe as 'completely ugly' with no fear of contradiction.

I like the australian-looking guy who obviously fancied himself as a model once upon a time and has professional photos. (the one in the suit staring decisively at the sun/the future next to a skyscraper).

It makes no sense why you would pay 40000yen an hour for one of those guys when you could get a normal looking date in 30mins via the online dating sites.

  3. British DVDs are Region2, PAL.

    Japanese DVDs are Region2, NTSC.

British DVDs do not work on Japanese DVD players, unless they have a PAL->NTSC converter built in. All-region makes no difference here, as they are the same region anyway.

I'm simply making the point that there is a difference betweeen all-region and all-format.

  4. Its gonna be an interesting run-in to the end of the season for Liverpool. We have a few easy games coming up so we HAVE to get 100% points from those, because we still have to play everton and man utd, and after that IIRC we still have to go to arsenal and chelsea.

Keegan will stay unless the get relegated. Imagine if he relegated them, that would be so great. Big Sam would be in heaven.

  5. I was surprised to find out recently that the 'abortion pill' is not available in Japan.

If you find out you are pregnant you have to have a kind of operation that costs around 130,000yen.

Apparently they consider the abortion pill (also known as Mifepristone, RU486, Mifegyne, Mifiprex) unsafe. At first I thought it was to protect the doctors profitable operations but on second thoughts I guess it is to discourage abortion and thus increase number of new babies here. Or may they just genuinely think it is unsafe, despite being used for years overseas?

  6. I watched there will be blood.

It kept skipping around, not sure if thats my dodgy download or the original movie. Its supposed to have a weird structure so very hard to tell. I thought the guy who played Ethan(?) the priest was quite poor. I later found out he got the part at the last minute. Very dark and confusing movie, I think you have to watch it at least twice.

  7. You have to pay to attend the wedding.

Next, you get a gift given to you the following month which is supposed to be equal to the value you paid. Sometimes you can choose the gift - they will send you a catalouge and you can choose anything in it. the catalouge will contain only items that are of value X (what you paid to go the wedding). However in reality, the items are all overpriced in the catalouge.

Recent example: wife pays 40,000yen to attend wedding, gets a catalouge of 40,000yen items to choose from, and ends up with an alarm clock that you can buy for 6000yen from tokyu hands.

It just an extension of the omiyage scam. At the end of the day, the catalouge company is the big winner.
