  1. My daughter tried a smartphone, and even though it was easier adding music, it was a heap of crap. No wonder it was 0yen!
  2. maybe someone can help me out on my iphone 5. I keep getting a message "You have a new message" as well as a "dismiss" button. But when i open my iphone there aren't any new messages.
  3. getting the license was a little pricey at about 110,000 yen but it is good fun riding and it does save about 8,000 yen a month on gas for the car.
  4. I wouldn't mind a sports watch with GPS, HRM. Must drop hints to the wife as Xmas is approaching
  5. I am waking up earlier and earlier and going to bed earlier as well - maybe that is a sign of getting older
  6. I lost 13kg this year from the high in February. I bought the Insanity DVD series. It's a 60 day program of intense fitness for about 45 mins per day. I saw my ribs and six pack for the first time in a lot of years!! The trainer, Shaun T, is very good at motivating and its cheaper than a gym membership.
  7. because i already had a car license there was only a road test. Not too difficult. Need to do an emergency stop, navigate some chicanes, hill start and stay on a narrow bridge for about 8 seconds.
  8. DB I found the bike to be just about right for me being an absolute beginner, though on some open roads, I have thought to myself, is that all that there is... Actually I had a crash. I lost concentration and slipped on some small stones on the side of the road, I was a little scratched the bike more so and had to go in for repairs for while.
  9. looks a little like the top of Happo but without the peaks in the background
  10. He is a risk. Obviously he will have counselling, but I wouldn't mind taking a bet that he will do it again within 2 seasons.
  11. Yeah that's a good call if you are carrying panniers. A few guys pass through here on hybirds with all the racks on. I usually go out for a few hours at a time. Usually to a coffee shop and back! The longest I have been is about 120km with my son down to Matsumoto, it was hard work coming back into the wind. It took us about 5 hours. Make sure you get some good quality padded bicycle shorts for those long days. I am sure you will have a lot of fun.
  12. Snowdude, are you tempted by a road bike rather than a hybrid? It may suit you more on the hills around where you live. I bought a Giant road bike a couple of years ago. It was one of the best buys I have ever made. I do about 3,000kms per year.
  13. I think totally! A dodgy penalty, elbow in the face, own goal, a foul let go. A great start to a World Cup! I hope we can get some more game like it! Only 63 to go!
  14. I know you only answered his question, but i wasn't querying that. confused how you think calling Yuzawa a ski resort is marketing and selling? Maybe a ski town is more appropriate.
  15. Muika, could you call Yuzawa a ski resort with many ski areas? Forexample when a customer visits they stay & eat in the resort, and try different ski areas Like Hakuba in a way...
  16. A beautiful day for a ride. Looking across at Happo-one Ski Area
  17. Haha  There was a "bozozoku" guy taking riding lessons at the same time as me. Of course he kept playing with the throttle while out of gear! Actually one day he asked the instructer if he could have a rest because his hands were cold - wimp!
  18. I bought it second hand, thinking I am only a "beginner" rider so I dont want to drop a new bike! (though I dont want to drop this bike either) It is in really good condition, you can tell it has been looked after. Looking at getting some saddle bags soon. Deciding to get black or tan...
  19. I haven't got a clue. I just saw it in the shop and liked the look of it.
  20. Passed my test and bought this bike It's a Yamaha Dragstar Classic 400cc. I just need to build a garage now!
  21. As you probably well know Chriselle, be careful of camping in riverbeds. Heavy rain can make these "streams" raging rivers in a matter of a few hours. There was an incident a few years ago with campers being washed away during the night here in Japan.
  22. Patagonia is an outlet and seems to sell a lot more small and x-small and xxl sizes than say medium and large. I heard through the "grapevine" that another large outdoor brand will be opening a store in Hakuba this year.
  23. No not really, most of the words are the same, clutch, brakes etc. Lesson 3 & 4 tomorrow
