  1. #1 priority for me are boots...I need to step down from my head world cups...want something softer and more forgiving on my delicate feet and shins...

nothing in particular, although i have heard some good things about the new raichle and also salomon...will probably spend hours trying on everything...

other than that, looking for a helmet, no poles, pants...and only if I find a real steal of a deal will I get some new skiis...cashflow is low this year...

  2. K2s piezo-electric ski was not just a piece of rubber...there is alot of engineering put into that...and believe it or not, there is alot of engineering put into every corner, shape , twist and turn of your ski and snowboard...piezo-electrics are used on the wings of fighter jet planes...its the same technology...hardly a gimmick

if you ride the pow, or do heavy bumps, or casual carving...then it is probably a waste of money...but if you are doing high-speed carving on hard-pack and ice, it could make a difference...

I personally didnt dig the k2s back when they came out with their kit, but that was mainly the shape of the ski...

    thats all...

last year I took 3 trips...ANA had this deal where you could get 1-way plane tix anywhere in the country for 10000...trick was the reservation period was a 2 week window that was 3months before the actual departure date...so i booked my dec. trip in oct...jan trip in nov...

but I havent seen them this year...anybody got some new tips??

  4. hey zook...did you get my private reply??

thanks for caring rach...well, i finally finished a bit of a career change...now I am teaching english in tokyo...original, hah...

I found that I posted much more on sj when I was procrastinating and putting off work in my last job...now, well, there isnt much I am trying to avoid...pretty low stress job if you ask me...

    cheers...

  5. well...not an MBA...

but I just started taking an online class from the University of Washington to get a head start on my graduate studies (engineering)...you can get a masters degree through this program online...

It is interesting...they basically video tape the lectures that are happening on campus...I can watch them live (webcast) or download...homeworks and notes are distributed via email. I fax my completed homeworks back...

Major downside is not being able to interact directly with the prof. and students...suprisingly, watching lectures on the computer is not as bad as I thought...and if I get bored, I can just switch it off...

Its not cheap...but it can be cheaper than enrolling full-time...

    hope that helps...

  6. ahh...I miss my kayaking days...

I used to guide on the Lehigh River...in a raft, but the outfitter gave all guides free kayaking lessons...and what a great sport it is...

scares the $#"% out of me like no other sport I have done...when I was doing it regularly I had a pretty solid roll, but was just getting comftorable in play spots (read: manuver into spot, stay there long enough to realize I will never make it, and then make my battle roll downstream)...

I miss it...but just didnt have the means to keep it up...maybe when I move back to the states...

  7. agreed...

Snowbeds is probably a little less than it claims to be...if you want a cheap bed, then it aint so bad...

Mitch (wonder if he reads this...), well, my impressions of him were not that great...and they got really bad when he had a few drinks in him...he was very sleezy and rude to some of my lady-friends there...it was disgusting...

snowbeds did let us host a party there...which was a good time, and there arent to many places that would agree to something like that...so that is a redeming quality...

anyway...thats my opinion...why do I feel like weve had this conversation before...

  8. if you are a real hifi freak, you should look into IR headphones...much pricier, but significant quality improvements...I have a hard time believing that any radio based wireless hp will sound good enough to replace a good wired pair...

if you dont have discriminating ears and just want to be free, than radio should be ok...

  9. hey...gear question for yall

I need a new pair of boots...I could use my old pair 1 more season, but dont think that is a good idea...I am now on Head World Cup boots...

I would like to get a softer boot...something i can use in the pow without feeling like my shins have been in a vice....

I also would like something that can let me go all out on the groomers, ice and hardpack...

and how about something for when i want to try and do some pipe work...i am completely new to that but want to experiment a little...

so what do you think?? I tried on the salomon xr the other day and it seemed nice, but it was too hot in the shop to get any idea on the real stiffness of the boot...

what do you fellow skiers use now??

    thanks!

  10. cant comment on the E-J thing....

but I grew up bilingually....in America...

In my home, my mom only spoke hebrew to me until about 8years old...my father only spoke english...I grew in a completely english speaking environment (wisconsin)...I am conversationally fluent in both languages...although admitedly, my reading and writing is very bad, and my speaking seems to slip every year...

I wonder if different languages are easier to acquire simultaneously than others...

  11. jesus peaker...

    relax buddy...

I imagine that the same situation in many other countries around the world would have resulted in vanadalism, looting, and god knows what else...

believe it or not, but we are very dependent on our elecy, and losing it for 12 hours on such a large scale is a big deal, and the way the citizens responded is also refreshing...this is not a blown fuse...a bit more dramatic than that...

and sbf, bolowing for columbine is a great flick, but I do not see the relevance, unless you think the blackout is part of some nra conspiracy...
