  1. I seriously doubt the iPod, or any brand that doesnt already have a line in, to make an upgrade of that type without buying a comletely new toy...

a line in for recording usually means 1) a line-in jack 2) and A/D converter 3) audio encoder (if you would record directly to mp3 or whatever)...

the most important part is the A/D converter, and I seriously doubt there is one waiting there inside your tiny pod...so best bet is to look for a new set-up

  2. yah...that definetly has been a factor for me...reports seem to say that the ipod goes kaput after about 18months...I believe you can replace the battery, but at a cost of near $200 (you can get the karma for $234 now at amazon!)

The new players have much better battery performance, but all have limited life span...I think the zen has a user-replacable battery

    still leaning towards the karma....

  3. The iRiver has all your recording needs satisfied...including digital/optical/analog line in and outs....it is a much smaller package than the nomad too....if you want recording, look into the iRiver...it even has a built in mic (although, you would probably want an external stereo mic for music...but for voice the internal should be fine...)

  4. Ahhhh....I did it! (and went a bit overboard)

got set up with some new gear...I want you all to know that this should greatly increase the amount of snow fall this season...

    my new gear:

    Boots: Salomon Course XR Japan

    Skiis: Volkl V-Explosive (120-95-112)

    v_explosive.jpg

    Bindings: Salomon S912Ti

    Poles: Smith Srant-Z

kind of got excited...only planned on the boots, but I think gandalf put a spell on me...

    bring on the snow!!!

  5. I am in the market to get a hard-drive mp3 player...what do you all think about the ipod alternatives out there today??

    I am thinking between the

    Rio Karma (20gb)

    iRiver iHP-120 (20gb)

    iPod (20gb)

there are a few other players out there, but these seem to be the ones most interesting to me...

    I think....

iPod still edges the others in terms of design and user interface...

iRiver wins interms of crazy features (recording, inline remote w/lcd)

Karma wins interms of supported audio formats, docking options, weight, battery life

give it to me....which is the best!?

  8. hdd dvd recorders are not the same thing as just a hard-drive...

memory is cheap... hdd dvd recorders are not...they are still new and hot on the market, and from what Ive seen are pricey anywhere you look...

so maybe that psx is not a huge rip-off afterall...but I cant say for sure...

you are also going to pay for the all-in-one box too...

  9. well...I am a proud phish-head, and I think they are one of the hottest live acts out there today...

the music isnt for everyone...I love it...it based on improvisation, so if you are afraid or weary of experimental and extended jamming based on jazz, rock, funk, soul, latin, and other genres, than just walk away...

Phish writes excellent music, concerts are a mix of composed pieces, improvisational explorations, and various covers (ranging from hendrix to the beastie boys).

Every concert is unique. They do not write setlists. They make them on the fly based on interactions with the audience. The lighting director also completely improvises the light show, one of the best in the business...some can be a full out rock fest, some are super trippy space fests...

they got 75,000 fans to go to the middle of the everglades for 3 days in 2000...they have festivals like that every year that sell out...

Anyway, just because you dont like a certain music doesnt mean its sh!t...

    peace,

  10. thanks asusual fattwins!

spent a few hours trying on boots...and I must say, I think the salomon xr japan are the best fit for me...the knissels were actually the worst fit...they crushed and twisted my foot in all sorts of wierd and painful ways...langes were too narrow at the toes...heads...well, I wanted to stay away from them...the salomons felt real nice...

now just need to find the best price...so far 46000 is the price to beat...ouch

  11. alright...I am narrowing down my boot search...

have more questions for those who know...

Does anybody know of a website or some online resource where I can find the stiffness index for all the boots out there??

I know I want a softer boot than what I have now, but its tough to tell in the store, and the stiffness index would be a big help...it also doesnt help that so many of these ski shops in tokyo have daft employees selling the shit...

I tried the Salomon Course XR Japan...really liked it, but 1 shop told me its softer than my heads, and 1 told me its stiffer??? wtf???

    thanks again!

  12. man....tough luck...

I cant believe some of the stuff I have gotten away with driving in this country....lucky I dont have a car anymore, cause I imagine I would be due soon...

I almost got threatened with handcuffs, but somehow, with my confidence boosting beer buzz, I managed to convince the cop that he had his "laws" all wrong...international driving license...of course its legal officer....dont you know the rules??

anyway, I would definetly have had my license suspeneded back home if I tried to pull off the same stunts...

  13. Anybody ever hear of Red Helmets???

They had a bunch at the expo, but the staff there were idiots and it seemed like everything there was entry level stuff...

anyway, here is what they had...

    Red Remix 12600

    Red SkyCap 8400

    Red Hi-Fi 9600

    Red Helmet X 12600

these are all supposed to be marked down prices...is it worth going back and getting one of these?_?? or am I better off heading to kanda/jimbocho

    thanks...
