  1. Juts saw this band from chicago a few nights ago... Umphrey's McGee... they are a hard rockin dual-guitar band with clear Zappa, Zeplin, and Yes influences but a definite groove and sound all their own (Yuki's P, you would dig these guys!) Heading in an hour to see Medeski Martin & Wood live in support of their new album, End of the World Party , which is an amazing album
  2. I imagine the key to BC gear, like any outdoor, mountaineering type gear is in how you use it. The most important thing to remember is LAYER. Your outermost layer should be breathable, waterproof, and durable. Ventilation is good, and the weight of the Jacket will probably be related to durability, amongst other things. But it really isn't more complicated than that. You do not want an insulated outer layer...insulation should come from your base layers. danz
  3. hey sunrise... I study aeronautics and astronautics engineering....but I tell the ladies I am rocket scientist as for the dap discussion...I am so amazed how apple has duped so many people into thinking "I don't need it" when it is a useful feature that can and should be implemented, and at no extra cost (check out the competition). Gapless playback is a great example...and battery life is another. It has taken iPod 4 generations to only get within 2-4 hrs of the competion...yup, they are still less than what others have to offer... yuki..the rio karma is a 20gb player.
  4. life is good...I like being a student again (except for the perpetual brokeness...)... just curious...aren't these things a musician would want?? gapless playback multiple audio codecs (there are at least 5 I can think of that are well accepted...and most perform better than mp3 and acc) parametric equalizer let us not even get to features that everyone should want...and I don't think iPod does a good job (if at all) with the above... iPod never catered to musicians...that would be to small a target group for Apple. and it certainly doesn't cater to audiophiles either.
  5. I like to look as these transitions as incremental steps... I am also planning on taking some avie courses this season, and gaining experience by heading into BC from bc gates at my home mountain (after purcharsing required gear). This is something I would imagine is also very easy to do in Europe...In this case you probably could get away with a less hard core setup, and focus more on your bc skillz... As your ability, confidence, needs change and get better, than you upgrade your gear...kinda like regular resort riding. Think about the time when you tried to ride Gandalf...didn't
  6. Probably not too many baseball fans in here... but... SOX WIN!!! The curse is OVER!!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!! GO SOX!!!
  7. sunrise... when has the iPod ever catered to musicians???? danz
  8. I need some help figuring out what to do... Option 1: Join UW Husky Ski School... Pros: I get a free season pass for a resort near seattle I get free access to the Husky lodge at the resort Cons: Work 2hrs Sat. afternoon, 2 hrs sun. during lunch on weekends for 6 weekends Snoqualmie (I think that is how you spell it) is near seattle, wet snow, low elevation, and not the greatest compared to what else is out there... Option 2: Pros: $270 season pass for Steven's Pass and Schwitzer Mtn...pass good ALL season (no blackout dates) Enderzero gives high marks t
  9. one of the reasons for buds incredible popularity in the states is due to the baby-boomer generation...and vietnam. Bud was the only beer easily available to american gi's in vietnam...talk about a good way to develop customer loyalty! That does not mean it is good...it is cheap. There are cheap bad tasting beers in every country you go to... The US has sooooo many brews available it would take a lifetime to try them all...my favorite beers all come from the US...Sierra Nevada IPA...mmmmmm
  10. My list... USA (NJ,NY,VT,ME,NH,CO,UT,NV,MA,WY) Canada Japan France Switzerland Italy
  11. I think he lapsed into a coma the day before he died...but I am not sure why... He truly was a great spokesman for para/quadrapaligics. One of my life-long friend's father got into a major road-biking accident last year and is now in a wheel chair and on a long and slow road to recovery. This man was the most active 50+ year old I knew, and went riding (on snow and on pedals) with me many times...so sad to see that happen to someone... 12. I am going to see Ichiro go for the record tomorrow...should be an awesome game if he beats the record! danz
  13. lately... The new Medeski, Martin, & Wood album : End of the World Party MMW always blows my mind...this album is tight and groovable from front to end... also, lots of RJD2 on the decks, and Talib Kweli for the hip-hop danz
  14. yah yah...but I wont spend my winter thinking about Japan pow...it could ruin my season! hey yuki...thanks! actually, it is a ph.d in aeronautics and astronautics engineering...just call me the rocket scientist danz

  16. On my way to seattle and already thinking about what to do come december... Who has skied in the Washington area?? I am looking to find my home mountain and possibly score a season pass using my new student discount powers. Stevens Pass seems close and offer a great college pass (like $280, anytime!!)...Blackcomb/whistler is out of the question...waaaay too expensive and no kickbacks for students danz p.s. fattwins, I am poor, but my skiis stay with me!
  17. well I have heard that good old db was a gymanstic olmpic hopeful danz
  18. I just recently spent a month in China and it was incredible!! China is really an amazing place with so much to offer. It is MASSIVE and there is alot of beautiful scenary. The minority cultures in the South west are also very interesting and give you a very different image of China. Shanghai is a massive city, like any other, but it does have some really cool backalleys that seemed to have escaped the wide avenues and skyscrapers. And of course, the food is amazing and sooooo cheap. Wish I could spend more time there!! danz
  19. hmmmm....sounds familiar to me....aac, iTunes... please, Apple is just as bad with that stuff as sony (ok...ATRAC does suck and no mp3s is really WEAK!!)... ender...you went with the nomad?? I was turned off by its size and software... You guys are all overlooking wonderful players...like mine! The Rio Karma...Veronica, 15hrs WITH a battery pack...I get 15 hours without one...plays 5 different audio formats and has tons of features. I love it! danz
  20. yah...whatever... seems the parisians are having some maintainance problems... http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/05/23/paris.roofcollapse/index.html danz
  21. Otis Redding is the other main act...I think there are 1 or 2 japanese blues bands playing as well... danz
  22. YukisP DT is a GOD! This guy totally blows me out of the water...master of tension and release...they moved through standard blues, sufi and indian music, jazz, funk, and reggae seamlessly...it was incredible.. only complaint was that it was a really short show...1 set + 1 song encore and it wasnt even 2 hrs!! I blame it on Club Quattro..they are tight-asses there... But checking him out again on sunday at the blues carnival!! Cant wait! danz
  23. Markie... I guess I am an exception to the rule then...cause I never fly in anything but the most casual looking of clothes...and have been bumped many times danz
  24. Ive been bumped to business class a few times...usually its always because the airline overbooked... I always ask if a plane is overbooked when I check in...a few years back airlines were much more liberal with their upgrade/compensation packages for giving up your seat on an overbooked flight. But now its a bit more difficult. Once I was upgraded just as I was boarding the plane...British Airways...that was sweet!! only problme with upgrades is it makes flying economy that much more difficult danz
