Thank you stemik
-
It's Friday and I have too many things to do.
Anyone help with a joke?
-
And don't you read the News threads?
We're open to a discussion on which might be best for the default (TOP, MID, BOTTOM), but that decision needs to be made with the big picture - all Japan - in mind.
-
Well whatever setting we set, it changes for each and every resort - we can't pick and choose for the setting for individual resorts. So the fact that right now we can't ski below mid-station at Hakuba isn't enough of a reason to change the setting for 250+ resorts throughout Japan. If that makes sense...
-
Our pages show base numbers as default (we can actually adjust that default if people think another setting might be better)
There are 3 pieces of data. At the top, you will see this:
6 DAY REPORT DETAILS >> TOP :: MID :: BOTTOM
If you click on any of those links the 6 day forecast will appear.
It's written here:

Thanks

All contests: until 30th June 2009
We're happy to announce our new Photo and Video Contests for the 08/09 season.
This season we are doing things differently and are opening the contests up so that every single photo uploaded to SnowJapan will be valid for at least one competition (rather than only photos taken at just a handful of resorts).
This season there are going to be 10 winners, sharing a collective prize of 50 lift tickets that will be valid next season (09/10) at (specified) Japanese resorts.
Entering each of the contests is very simple - any photo uploaded to the SnowJapan Photo Section from November 08 until the end of June 09 and specified to a resort will be valid. Please see below for specific contest conditions.
CONTEST 1:
Photos of the Year
5 winning photos will be chosen by SnowJapan (ie. the people who run the site).
Each and every photo uploaded to SnowJapan (* see below) between November 08 and June 09 and specified to a resort will be valid.
CONTEST 2:
FORUMS VOTE: Photos of the Year
3 winners will be chosen by members of the Forums (ie. you, if you are registered on the Forums and logged in).
Photos uploaded to SnowJapan can be nominated by any member of the Forums by simply being posted within ( this thread ) on the Forums.
Winners will be chosen by members of the SnowJapanForums in a poll thread that will be prepared in July 2009.
The winners will be the three photos that get the most votes by the end of October 2009.
[Please note that only photos uploaded to SnowJapan (* see below) will be valid and any non-valid photos will be deleted from the above thread just to keep things clear].
CONTEST 3:
FORUMS VOTE: Videos of the Year
All videos uploaded to http://www.snowjapan.tv will be valid for the competition.
Winners will be decided by members of the SnowJapanForums in a poll thread that will be prepared in July 2009.
The winners will be the two videos that get the most votes by the end of October 2009.
[Please note that only videos uploaded to SnowJapan.tv (** see below) will be valid].
----------------------------------------------------------
What are the prizes?
We have 50 lift tickets secured for next season (09/10) from a variety of ski resorts - including resorts in Hokkaido, the Tohoku region, Niigata and Nagano. Winners will be given a choice of the available tickets at the time of winning (with the overall winner getting first choice etc). We are not going to give any further details at this point as we want this season to be more about enjoying the photos from all over Japan than just trying to win a competition for photos from a specific resort.

Very sorry for the delay - we have been pushing as much as we can but we are now nearly there and just waiting for one more decision to be made by one of the places involved. We will then be ready to announce the winners on Friday night (announcement pages etc are all prepared & ready to go once we get the confirmation).
We are hoping to notify the winners in advance sometime between tomorrow afternoon and Friday morning.
We'll also be announcing a new photo contest for this season which will be a bit different this year.
Thanks

WEATHER & SNOW FORECASTS
For the last 4 or 5 years, during the winter season we have presented a basic weekly weather forecast for many of the ski and snowboard resorts throughout Japan. You might remember it looked like this:
For some time now we have been thinking through how we can improve things on the scale that we require. Perhaps with some sadness, it is time to say bye-bye to the little snowmen wearing mysteriously coloured hats and gloves and from today we are happy to have made significant changes to the data that is shown on our resort pages. Here is how it looks now:
As you can see from the above image, a lot more detailed and useful information is presented on the new pages including wind info, predicted snowfall (or rainfall), temperatures, wind chill, freezing level, sunrise and sunset information.
A full 6 day forecast is available by clicking on the TOP, MID and BOTTOM links at the top of the report.
You can check it out on over 250 of our resort pages on the site and here are some samples for popular resorts:
Naeba:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=1
Niseko Grand Hirafu:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=120
Happo-one:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=65
Nozawa Onsen:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=40
(If you have a webpage you are welcome to link to any of the resort pages if you wish).
PLEASE NOTE:
By default, the forecast for 3+ days appears on the page - each day is split into morning, afternoon and night.
Towards the top of the report you will see links that are called TOP, MID and BOTTOM. If you click on any of these links, a detailed 6-day forecast will appear on the page as an overlay. TOP is data for the top elevation of the resort, BOTTOM is data for the base. MID is the mid-point between those two elevations.
To close the overlay box, please click on the small "X" that you can find in the top right of the overlay area.
------------------------
We have already implemented this information on over 250 of our ski and snowboard resort pages - including most of the larger resorts in Japan. We are currently working with the data providers to increase that coverage and hope to implement that in the coming weeks.
For more information on this data as well as the other daily weather and snow reporting that we present on our site, please see this page:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/aboutweather.html
We hope you like this change.
------------------------
(The "Current Snow Depth" and "Resort Status" data presented on the resort pages will begin updating for the season in a week or so - we will post here when that begins).
-
Hmmm not sure about that thursday. Only me and SJ1 that takes them I think, and we feel quite daft doing it as well!
We need more people to take them!
-
For all you phone phans out there waiting for the latest on the Emergency Telephone box. Well, until this morning it was all bare as we have had lots of rain over the last week and no new snowfall. Just a bit of snow last night and here is the box this morning. That snow will have gone by later this afternoon.
-
I don't think we are paying enough.

Update on this - we are still waiting for a few decisions on this, but are pushing to try and get it all sorted asap so that we can announce this (and a new contest) next week.
Thank you.

Guess where Ben works? Anyone?
Often first time spam posters like this put a bit more thought into it by creating a new thread to get more attention.....
-
Hello and welcome.
No, you won't be able to do anything without using the Gondola - the bottom of the resort is actually at the top of the gondola.
So unfortunately you will be out of luck there...
If you want a day trip in that area, Kagura is open. See the Yuzawa Now and Naeba Now pages for daily updates on that.
-
Incorrect.
No IP addresses are banned.
Not quite as dramatic sounding though is it...
-
No sorry. But imagine no snow around it and thats what it'll look like.

Hi dawnblue and welcome.
I'm sure some people will answer your specific questions.
Just in case you have not seen this page yet:
