  1. Marillen is a good location, are you staying there again this winter? i am there most night with the kids race team. I sometimes pop in for a beer.

No, we thought we'd try the Hakuba Springs this time: In-house onsen, Jack's Bar next door to watch the Asian Cup footy at night, and opposite the bus stop for Goryu where Mrs. and Young Miss Big Al prefer to ski.

Be good to touch base though mate - you obviously know the lie of the land!

  2. It came with 245/70's (All terrain) as standard so it's not shy on road rubber.

My cruise down the Gold Coast at the weekend obviously helped as I just sat on 1800 - 2000 rev's on the freeway. The fill up after the next one will give a truer picture. ie. a tankful used up sitting in bloody Brissie traffic trying to get to work. :veryangry:

  3. Hey Stemik, are you a Hakuba resident?

If so I'm sure you'd have the low-down on the best local boerwurst !!

Marrillen Hotel have a slope side restaurant that does a good German bratwurst!

Yeah, got that one covered - we stayed at the Marillen January this year and the Bratwurst isn't bad atall !

The Huttenzauber just across the slope is even better and has a wide range of Bavarian fare and nice Weissbier. It's only open at lunch time though - makes for an ideal lunch stop.

Mmmmmmmmmm......just thinking about it currywurst and weissbier for lunch slopeside. It really doesn't get better than that !! :D

  4. I must admit I hate paying for hotels.... period.

Even expensive places aren't as good as home - most of them far inferior - and they take so much cash off you.

I feel they almost never ever offer value for money. Or what I think is what is value for money --- and if I'm paying, that's what counts!

A necessary (at times) evil for me.

Spoken like a true McSki !!   lmfao

  5. Hey everyone, thanks for all the great advice

Plenty of food for thought so I'll do some more net search based on the above.

We don't need Burj al Arab standards but don't want Backpackers......

Tubbs - the New Year Basho is being held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan from Jan 11th to Jan 25th.

We're going to bus it from Hakuba to Nagano then take the Shinkansen (another bucket list item to be ticked off) to Tokyo.

Is there a cheap way to cover the Shinkansen trip and 3 days of using Tokyo metro and a one way trip on the Narita express?

    Again, thanks in advance.

  6. G'day All,

After our ski trip to Hakuba, we'll be in Tokyo for 3 days (2 nights) in late Jan. - a Tokyo shopping trip for Mrs. & Miss Big Al was part of the trade off for the ski trip.

Based solely on Net research I was thinking of booking a hotel in the Shinjuku area.

1.) Can anyone recommend a good hotel suitable for us (Mum, Dad & 2 teenage kids) in Shinjuku. Desirable attributes include late checkout (or baggage hold facility) on our last day so we can enjoy another Tokyo day before an evening flight out of Narita.

2.) Is there an area better than Shinjuku in which to base ourselves? A priority is easy access to good shopping (really good sports store is a must - I want a cool Japanese cycle shirt and Junior wants a footy shirt), restaurants etc. and plan on going to the sumo basho so easy access to metro/rail system?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Brendan Rodgers is about to field a second string side to run on against Real Madrid at the Bernabau :omg:

I can understand resting players but in addition to being a bit of a white flag job, I hope it doesn't go pear-shaped to the extent that some of the newbies get traumatised by a flogging !!

It's also a bit of a piss take of those Scousers who have spent their hard earned (or as it's Liverpool, their ill-begotten :D) on the trip over to Spain.

  8. Blurry eyes early this morning from watching Western Sydney Wanderers beat Al Halal in Saudi Arabia to become Champions Of Asia

Must admit we had we had some dodgy decicions go our way (for a change) from the Japanese Ref.............god bless him.

    Amazing achievement !!

High Fives for Poppa and his troops  really well done.

On the other side of the coin though I can't remember seeing 3 more clear cut penalties not given. With a team from any other region of the world my football sympathy would be them as the decisions were so blatantly wrong as to be nigh-on impossible to make without the element of corruption.

But as Al Hilal are from that soooo tolerant, even-minded, altruistic neck of the woods, Stuff 'em I say :D

As the English Premier League marches on we keep coming across those little reminders that Christmas is just around the corner. The fact that both Christmas turkey and Man U look great in the middle of the table springs to mind!!

  9. Just demolished a 700g rump off the Weber.

Washed down with Burleigh Brewing's Hef and Duke Premium Lager.

All this after an afternoon sucking Stones & Wood Pale Ale in the Eatons Hill Hotel with Mrs. & Young Miss Big Al on a hot humid Queensland day.

    Aaaaahh life's good

  10. On the gallery page, click the button marked OPTIONS, then click SHARE LINKS. Then copy the URL thats in the IMAGE LINKS section and then paste it into the window that pops up when you click the image icon

Hey Mods. I just tried exactly what Tubby suggested here and got the same result, when I post the URL in the window that pops up when I click the image icon there is always a small "X" after the address and when I click ok nothing happens.

    Could you help please?
