  1. I totally understand and agree with the saying "earned your turns". It doesn't infer that you are looking down at lift or helicopter users but acknowledges the effort you have put into getting your run down the hill. Other sports I've been involved in (judo, football and cycling) have many expressions about having to "earn" a particular status or reward. Said "earning" usually describes supreme physical effort and sacrifice with training regimes. The idea of "earning" your reward implies that you have made the sacrifices and put in the hard yards to get it, so I can totally see how
  2. All very tame !! When it comes to taking on and beating the cops - RANGERS wrote the book!!
  3. Real Madrid quite simply took the cane out of the cupboard and gave the Scousers a damned good spanking what ??!!
  4. Yesterday, I had my first session back on the bike since my latest back injury. Did about 30 minutes at the local criterium circuit. Hell of a headwind down the back section but I averaged around 30km/h. Pretty small scale stuff but it felt good and the fuse is lit to start building up the k's. No negative reaction from my back this morning which was the primary outcome objective. In my head, the plan is now to constantly build up the bike and gym time between now and the January trip to Happo while being careful with the diet. Reality seems to put many hurdles in the way h
  5. Nice one Ippy. The powers that be obviously realised that importing a young Scot is a positive step towards addressing the female South Korean low fertility rate problem !!
  6. Steve Bloody Lee is 2 months younger than me which puts him firmly in my age group for ever........... Ah well..... I suppose just finishing would be a victory of sorts........certainly the only one I'll be up for!! Still keen though
  7. Awesome stemik!! Congrat's to your daughter If you don't mind me asking, what age category do you compete in? and what time usually wins that category? I'll be 50-59 category for the next few years. I was thinking that the locals would be unbeatable in most categories but would love to have a crack if there were some kind of Gaijin award.
  8. Decided to quit the 6:1. With working long days I just got too tired on my fasting day. Looks like it'll have to be the old combo of being a little more careful with diet while increasing the training intensity!!
  9. Sounds like Waitrose supermarkets would be a good start
  10. My thoughts exactly SJ. Technically, it looks as safe as a high(ish) speed event can be, but quad burn would be considerable. In my mid-teens when training and racing for the school, some mates and I "downhilled" (ie. pretended it was a race event and dodged the ski patrols etc.) the ladies Olympic course at Axamer Lizum in Austria - top to bottom. Compared to the short slalom and GS courses we were used to racing it was unbearably long and the many cruisy sections were absolute agony in the tuck. By means of comparison, at that time I could do the "chair sit" exercise (hips and knees at 9
  11. Yeah, skied the run myself and it's pretty cruisy. Racing down the whole length through GS or Super-G (or even D/H) radius gates is a whole different ball game however.
  12. No, but the Pythonesque scene of a man running around with a painful spider bite and a raging boner would surely be worth some Youtube footage !!
  13. Hey, this little Brazilian ain't all bad..... Aside from causing intense pain, the venom of the spider can also cause priapism in humans. Erections resulting from the bite are uncomfortable, can last for many hours and can lead to impotence. A component of the venom (Tx2-6) is being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatments
  14. Hey Tubby - awesome goal celebration from your deadly rivals..... http://www.dailyreco...fc-goal-4464766 :D
  15. Just been reading about, and watching Youtube videos of the Happo One Riesenslalom. It's held in March each year so unfortunately 2015 would be out for me, but it has stirred something in my soul and is burning the deep, deep layers of desire to the point of it becoming a project Has anyone here competed in this?
  16. Zero from 2 - definitely not the start we wanted. Midfield (esp. Broich and Brattan) was outmuscled yesterday. Hoping for better things against Sydney on Friday !!!!
  17. Mrs. Big Al's Honda CRV (don't know if it's got the same name in Japan) is the duck's nuts! Pretty good space inside - best in class for medium SUV's - and a super sweet engine. You see plenty of the previous model, and pre-previous and pre-pre-previous models on the roads in Brissie so they seem to last the pace which backs up word-of-mouth testimonies. Must admit to being a huge fan of the late great Soichiro Honda. Studied him a bit during my business Masters Degree and he came across as not only a compulsively industrious dude but a real "out of the box" thinker: "The valu
  18. Yeah - Happy Birthday young fellah!!
  19. Excuse me interrupting, but that's a good couple of point SJ. I'll take them on board too.
  20. Old farts of the world unite - we have nothing to lose but our zimmers!! :D
  21. BM - This sounds awesome. I'll be in Tokyo 23rd - 25th Jan and would love to try this. The only slight potential problem could be convincing Mrs. Big Al
