  1. My bro and his fiancee are coming to visit in December, so I'm looking for an overnight stay up in the mountains for 4-6 people. But bro's lady isn't a big fan of snow action, though she does like onsen. We have no car so will have to train/shinkansen up. Mon frere is a beginner on the snow too, but I wouldn't mind a little more of a challenge. So I'm thinking Nozawa, but because we can only do a single night stay somewhere nearer to Tokyo with a decent hotel/onsen would be nice, if anyone has any recommendations? If not, does anyone know of a good affordable hotel with decent spa faci
  2. Don't think I'll ever catch up to the current gen again- so much backlog. Only just chewing though Deus Ex Human Revolution (bloomin' good game though). Won't ever have the time to warrant a new console purchase, the wii is gathering dust and DS and PSP are relics now. PS3 is the only thing that sees use (thanks to the uk PSN+ sub i got), mainly thanks to getting a mac instead of a decent PC (silly, silly me). It's a nice thing to just chill out to (I don't watch telly, just this instead), but I think my proper gamehead days are well over.
  3. One of the many 'happy Mondays' we get this time of year. Which gives us enough time to go.. Nowhere in particular . When's that 'mountain holiday' supposed to be springing up again?
  4. Lady Peetan went to the au store yesterday to discuss her upgrade from a 16gb 5 to a 64gb 6 (apparently 32's aren't being made anymore??), totally flummoxed by the process. If she carried on without upgrading or changing her contract she would end up paying about 1,000 yen more per month because of tethering and end of the discount period etc. However, the guy's billing numbers for her contract completely mismatched her last bill. Strange. She has some discount vouchers and will trade her phone in though, so at least that will make it cheaper. Also, changing to a new provid
  5. Good match for arsenal v city. Currently watching the Chelsea v Swansea game, loving that Terry own goal. Couldn't happen to a nicer c**t.
  6. Well I have to say this is the earliest I've gone back to long sleeve dress shirts since I arrived in 2010. Wouldn't be surprising if some white fluffy action isn't happening somewhere.
  7. I tend to cartwheel, myself. ...Though, is it technically called cartwheeling if partly done with your face?
  8. When I upgraded and wanted the discount I first had to pay 10,000 for a contract alteration fee, then start over with all the offers etc. It worked out cheaper than just getting the phone outright. You need to look at if the 2835 yen pcm is discounted off your monthly bill, or if only part of it is. If your discount for the phone is less than the cost of the alteration of your contract in order to get said discount, then just get the phone. Unless you want to change your data tariff too, that is, in which case you'll need to discuss it with them anyway. In all honesty, they only rea
  9. well I suppose if one of them video games be SSX or Sean Wh.. sorry, yeah that wouldn't do it either..
  10. I "love" it with phone companies here that you can't cancel your contract anytime once you have exceeded the term length; you have a window period to check out of that SOB before you're locked into the same contract for another full term. same with internet and other contracts too, actually. It would never fly back in Blighty.
  11. and all this is related to the skills on piste? Sorry, maybe I should have been a bit clearer. What do people do that is directly snowboarding/skiing related while not on snow to make sure they don't lose touch, or is it like riding a bicycle?
  12. Rather than 'what are your hobbies off season', what do you do to stop yourself from going rusty in the summer months? Do you go to summer slopes? Indoor slopes? Does skateboarding help for boarders? Do you go off to get your powder hit elsewhere? Myself, being fairly new, kept myself in tip-top shape by clicking on YouTube videos while looking wistfully at my packed up gear in the corner, and occasionally checking it for rust.
  13. Hmmmmm... I could have been swayed, but not really. I like my watches, it's really the only kind of accessorising you can really get away with (besides those sexuality-questioning belt buckles you can buy). None of the combinations look that distinct, worse still the magnet clasps look like -as lady Peetan said- someone could take it off your hands very easily. I'll stick to my analogues and pocket watches
  14. Wait.. You need an iphone to work this too? It's not standalone? Out.
  15. I noticed that this morning too, muika- and I'm just outside tokyo's heat island effect. Strangely early this year.
  16. Had to go to the byouin today to get fixed. Wheeeee. Hadn't been able to drink for a couple of days and was sweating like a mofo- throat had closed up and I could only communicate with lady Peetan via gestures/writing. They hooked me up to a saline drip and gave me a ton of medicine for the throat/fever. Safe to say I've been to friendlier hospitals- they were very heavy handed when looking at my throat, talking to me as if I was a retarded man because I couldn't reply in the usual Japanese and not being that sympathetic when I needed fluids but can't swallow. Told me to gaman until
  17. Thankfully no, not recently anyway! Was there about 3-4 weeks ago, mind you- but the symptoms come out sooner than that don't they?
  18. Good evening! Running a fever of 40.3. I think it's doctor time!
  19. Up until about two weeks ago I was in really great condition, because of the job (karate coach at a school) and because I was peaking for my style's all-Japan championships (got to best 16), and working towards being in the national squad back in blighty. So went back to the uk, worked out there and did pretty well regarding the squad, so I came back and have "rested" for the last two weeks. It's now "off" season regarding tournaments anyway, but I'll be getting back on it to improve for the snowboard season and tournaments early next year!
  20. If you have a Yamaya near you I think they have a tallboy for around the same price?
  21. I saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on the plane over the pond. I was very pleasantly surprised! Not a challenging film by any means, but a great flick to relax to after a ferw beers on a Sunday evening kind of film. Also saw: The Fisher King: very mental- worth a watch, even if just once. Actually didn't think Robin Williams was that great in it. Jeff Bridges however was awesomely despicable. The Lego Movie: Actually, meh. nice message, but the in-jokes didn't hold up for me. Watchmen: favourite. Snowpiercer: DON'T WATCH THIS ON A PLANE. IT WILL RUIN THE MOVIE. It just didn't make s
