My father-in-law just brought me a case! Much respect for the man as he loves quality alcohol -
JALT Conference 2013
teikiatsulover replied to teikiatsulover's topic in General off-topic discussions
Yeah, ALTs and Eikaiwa Senseis right? Fair nuff. Thought there might be some more involved teachers at jhs, hs, and unis. Maybe some are still deciding whether to go or not. Some great presentations for sure and several of the SIG (special interest groups) look quite interesting. Looking forward to it, but also the drinking afterwards!! -
JALT Conference 2013

I figured there were teachers on here, but I guess not -
That feels wonderful. I can handle that for a bit myself. I'm always just happy when the humidity dissipates and it's comfortable to be out and around. I was actually cold last night here in Nara and had to grab a light blanket for the first time since summer started.

Anybody going to come to Kansai for the JALT Conference? A few of my colleagues and I are going, and was just curious of any teachers on here will be there. Going to any of the SIG's?

No bottles unfortunately, but am enjoying another Aki right now. Gotta love drinking this early in the afternoon. Saw that they're on sale at the store here, might just have to get one more case...my Missy's quite enjoys it, too. -
Motorcycle license in Japan
teikiatsulover replied to stemik's topic in General off-topic discussions
I'm with Snowdude as I'd also like a big crotch rocket. Nothing like going Mach 1 on a bike! I think if you already had your license that that'd make a difference, but I'm not 100% confident about that. -

Motorcycle license in Japan
teikiatsulover replied to stemik's topic in General off-topic discussions
I'm keen to get mine as well, I want to get it for oogata or I don't see the reason for getting a bike as I'd like at least a 1000cc bike. Can't you just go to the drivers license test centers and practice a few times, then take the exam? I'd hate to have to fork out 140,000 yen for some wanker to tell me what I already know. Snowdude, some teachers at my school had mentioned somewhere around that price range, so I'm guessing its probably pretty close. Did you already have your bike license from another country? That'd make a difference I'd imagine. I have been having dreams of a Yama -
I can handle that for my kid. If it was two or three thousand that would be a different matter though. Just look at how cheap skiing in Japan is compared to N. America, Europe, or Oz and NZ. It's half the price. What I worry about is the next two decades with the big population decrease. I know that's another thread, but I wonder how it will effect resorts and pensions.

Home theater sound systems

Outstanding!! Glad you could get that worked in. My mate had his projector built into the wall with it hidden. Fantastic idea. I'd like that myself, but we need to buy a house first. -
I'm getting that way now. Gotta say I love the mini

That looks sexy! I'd love to hear that cranked up, but I can't imagine being far enough away from people to be able to use it. You'd have everybody in a square kilometer listening to whatever you played! -

Somebody mentioned 十四代 from Yamagata, that stuff is amazing. One of my mates and I went to a Kaiseki place in Gion and was fortunate to try it there. I also recently enjoyed a great sake from Mie called Zaku (作) which I'd like to have again. -

Is ONKY the same as ONKYO? -
That's definitely a good thing bc issues can get outta hand when everything is about money. Reminds me of a girl I dated before. Just a nightmare! Maybe you can ask for a raise then!

I couldn't even imagine how much time and energy it takes, so thanks for your hard work! Seems like you have still so much more coming for SJ over the next several years. You're not an indentured servant are you? ;(

New Gear for 2013/14
teikiatsulover replied to Tubby Beaver's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Not this year because my skis are still good, but I'd like to buy some DPS 112's with dynafit bindings when they die. They will be expensive but they should last a long time. Still need to throw my Pontoons on auction too as I haven't skied them but three or four times. Wear and gloves are good. Oh maybe some goggles but that's about all I can think of at the moment. -
And it's free too! Love the word free!!

I want speakers built into the walls dumbstick, but I'm sure that'd be an expensive addon for whatever reason. I couldn't imagine getting that right now because of kids because they'd be pulled on and climbed on, but definitely later!! -
Got it

I wasn't ever dying to get an iPad, but after I was able to talk my school into buying me an iPad mini I've got to admit that I really like the thing and love all the applications that are available. I can't believe that some of these apps are free as they're fantastic... Maybe they try to hook you with the paid upgrades? Still I love this little toy Now to find and learn how to use the apps that are out there in the classroom.
