  1. Ah, gotcha. Yeah, middlemen take a big cut of the pie, and then leave you the crumbs. Sapporo is a nice city and the access to the mountains is great though, so quite envious of your location.
  2. Nice pics Tubby, would like to go to Tomamu someday. Random question...you moved up to Sapporo from Honshu right? Did you get a job at a private school to make the move?
  3. I thought I'd say that after two weeks now I'm really enjoying the workouts I can do. Feel stronger and am losing my spare tire already, so I give these things two thumbs up! Changing workouts around and adding new routines in the mix and am now thinking about when I'll buy the 16kg...
  4. Outstanding work on your boards! Now only if you made skis! Very impressed.
  5. Mamabear, I actually felt pretty good today after stretching last night so I just repeated the same set. Bigwill I started off thinking I'd only do each one once, but felt good afterwards. The weight isn't that much really, so I decided to do it once more to feel out the movement again. I didn't think it would hit me the way it did as I was just thinking its two sets, can't be that bad right? Surely this time it can't be as bad!
  6. Looking forward to it as I haven't been in a few years. More looking forward to some beers after
  7. Mamabear, that's cruel It's even worse today. God, I don't know how to explain what I feel right now because I've never felt this sore before. I guess the workouts targeted all the muscles that I don't hit when cycling. Kevkastle, I bought a 12kg kettlebell after hearing about it from some friends, and feel like I'm regretting it already. I don't actually mean that, but this pain is insane. I've never felt this sore in my life. I'll try to list what I did after watching Pavel, who I guess is some famous Russian kettlebell instructor. I did 40 swings X 2 sets Squat pushes? Thruster
  8. For the love of god, what the hell have I gotten myself into?! I can't walk, I can't go down stairs, I can't sit down to use the bathroom, I can't pick up something when I've dropped it, overall I can't move! Teachers and students were laughing at me today, and my wife just keeps chuckling to herself when I have to move around. I'd like to go get another beer, but I'm not able to get up off the sofa...good thing my better half is here So, this is probably the sorest I've ever been in my life. I was watching the Russian guy, Pavel, and just tried to figure out the movements last night, an
  9. I couldn't put it down once I started it. The story is gripping, and you just keep thinking will Shins life ever get better? Overall I enjoyed the story.
  10. It was a beautiful day for a bike ride today! It was a bit wet out there after the rain last night, but the temperature was perfect. Man I love riding in autumn after the humidity dissipates - I almost feel like I get a big spring in my step at this time of year. So I bit the bullet and bought a 12kg kettlebell off Amazon and it'll be here tomorrow or Monday. I'm not sure what I'm getting into, but I'm looking forward to knocking myself out with it and losing a few teeth. I have found some great workouts via YouTube and will start with the basics to learn the movements first. Tanoshimi.
  11. Escape From Camp 14 The life of Shin in a North Korean gulag is shocking.
  12. Hokkaido, Hakuba, Myoko, and Dynaland for us. I would really love to get up to Zao this winter. Might be able to work in a five day vacation in February and may head up there then. Pretty sure we're spending our winter vacation up in Hokkaido!
  13. Tubby, it sure makes life easier over here doesn't it!?
  14. I use them at group personal training. When we make groups of 3, one boxing, one bag holder, the third often does kettle ball swings - on rotation. It IS a very good exercise for engaging many muscle groups at once, good for core and stability. Will also use it as a station when doing a rotation session, again usually full body overhead swings. We have free weights so bicep curls, tricep kickback etc would be done with those, not the kettle bells. Some of the participants on injury rehab use them to carry as they walk, instead of running. Thank you for the info! I watched some vid
  15. Thanks Mamabear. What kind of workouts do you do with them? What do you think of them? They seem like a good way to improve strength without paying for a gym membership or needing a huge amount of space for a machine,.
  16. A colleague has a pretty bad relationship with his wife's parents, and I get to hear about it constantly. That always makes me realize how lucky I am.
  17. Nagpants, he rocks! We get along like father/son, same with my mother-in-law, so I am very lucky to have such cool in laws!
  18. I've been cycling and swimming some. Riding 20-40Ks two to three days per week, so trying to get into some shape, and then swimming a mile or so once or twice per week depending on work and time. I could also stand to lose a few kilos myself! Random question. A few of my friends here in Kansai have told me they use something called kettlebells. I didn't know what they were until I checked YouTube. I don't have any dumbells or weights so don't do any weight training, but I'm quite interested in trying these. I found them on amazon so easy to buy, but am curious if any of you have ever tri
