I am going to visit and stay with my friend in Sugadaira in Nagano in middle of February for 12 days. -

If definitely ski - and not try out board also - I would definitely buy. Rental is expensive and at end of course you don't have it for next time. -

I think if central and south area then going south via Karuizawa is probably better. -

Yes Oze is wonderful place. My best friend grew up in the Oze area close to Tokura. I often go and visit up there. -
