I am originally from Fukuoka and I have to say unfortunately there are not many historical sites remained in Fukuoka compare to other tourist destinations like Kyoto but Fukuoka is always a popular destination and you can consider it as a southern version of Sapporo without snow. It is a city by the sea so the sea food is great and is famous for Yatai-stands for ramen noodles at night by the river run through in the middle of down town. So just eat, eat and eat! It's a clean and laid back city and worth visiting. I hope you enjoy your staying there.
