  1. My understanding is that Quantas has cancelled the direct perth-tokyo flight permanently. We are flying with cathay pacific to sapporo through hong kong in january, though it is about $200 AUD more expensive pp.
  2. Or they could work on a teleportation device, could go from my living room to the top of any mountain in the world in an instant... well, I can dream anyway
  3. I also have fond memories of travelling to Mt Ruapehu, although we left from Hamilton, and generally went to Turoa instead of Whakapapa. About 3.5 hrs each way.
  4. Glad to hear that everything is ok with your daughter (and bank account). Makes me wonder how many australians actually take out travel insurance when they travel to Bali. It is seen as a cheap holiday destination, but could turn seriously expensive without insurance.
  5. Already booked, accomodation confirmed at Furano and Rusutsu for mid Jan 2012. I wish it was January now!

  8. No, I have known it for a while, but disasters like this make it far more apparent.
  9. Why let facts get in the way of a good story? Having a sensational headline sells, and many media outlets are businesses that seem to think their bottom line is more important than the truth.
  10. after the poor service we received from a certain airline on our last trip, we were not planning on flying with them again anyway, so the fact that they have stopped flying Perth to Narita doesn't bother me too much.
  11. I am booking my next trip to japan within the next week. We will be heading to Furano and Rusutsu in January 2012. I personally don't think that Hokkaido will be affected by even the worst forseeable outcome at Fukishima. We have decided to fly via Hong Kong instead of Tokyo, but that was forced on us as Quantas have stopped flying from Perth to Narita. One thing I have been wondering, has there been many avalanches in northern Honshu with all the aftershocks that keep happening?
  12. We had a fantastic time in Tokyo and Rusutsu in Feb, we will be back in 2012 for sure, going to head for Furano and Rusutsu to o our part for the Japanese economy (and get some powder turns too!)
