The challenge has been laid down......... On some days a long run up may be required, even specialised machinery but our entry to the sacred phone box has certainly resulted in plenty of snow, even though we are now at home, sleep deprived and maybe a beer or two under the belt, hopefully you are all enjoying our effort. Adjusting to the humidity, rain and lack of snow will take some time and hopefully the alarm clock will be forgotten. Dom & Dave

Hey TubbyBeaverinho, We were there on the 26th. What a day, lots of powder, no people. The view - New snow depth - I made it - We spent the entire day riding lift B & C, doing the 2 black courses 1 & 2, except for a trip to the Mountain Restaurant for lunch and we too were given the “soup” with our meals. We were very impressed with the large beer glass, the table in the photo finished 2 during our lunch. The beer glass – Being Australians and Australia Day, it was a hard decision not to have a beer and we left to kept riding the powder on run

Hey All, Having riden Maiko and Kandatsu in Yuzawa the last 2 days, while not being serious mountains, it was amazing how many bodies \ heads popped up while riding the black ungroomed runs. We were having fun straight lining these runs and were amazed how many crashed people there were to dodge at times and yes, us at times as well. We have a few hours to ride at Gala before we leave tomorrow and are sure there will be more heads to dodge in the south area. Tubby, Maiko was veeerrrry nice on Thursday and look forward to getting back there again on our next visit. Look out for

We visited the phone box after a day at Gala and Ishiuchi on the 24th and saw it again on the bus going to and from Maiko on the 26th. I will upload the photos when we get home. Yes we did get some strange looks while walking from Gala and back again, but hey, it was worth it to have a photo with the famous phone box Dom and Dave

Which resort to visit in Myoko?
Dominique replied to norcal's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
If it keeps on snowing until Friday, Seki. We found Seki pretty trashed if it hadnt snowed the night before but I only got there once. We have spent a few days at Akakura Kanko (Akakan), its a lot bigger and can have some nice powder in the trees for a few days and may be better for a day visit. Also, Suginahara is worth looking at as well. Long runs, plenty of trees and powder to be had. Just watch out for the Army peolpe skiing around. Akakura Onsen did nothing for us, we rode in and rode out. Rememebr with Kanko, your lift pass is not valid for the Onsen side on the mounta -
