rider69 replied to NECK's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
From Hakuba to Tsugaike on a bike there isnt that much up and down. Still Tsugaike is to flat to warrant a hike up imho. My trail running up happo has been put on hold due to this snow!!!! -

LOL nothing like a Canadian freezing rain event that changes the whole town into an actually skating rink. I once skated in the park for kms do to a 2cm thick rain crust. One of my best memories! The road from Toyoshina to Omachi Tunnel is horrible worse than driving in a snow storm at times. -

Next update. The first victim of the Hakuba Snow season. A 15 to 20 year old cherry tree has snapped under the weight of the new snow. Sad day for the students and teacher at this JHS. PS still snowing -

Happo looks to have a foot of fresh at mid. Breaking out the shovel at school today 10 to 15 cms in the parking lot to be cleared. -

31 day JTB season pass
rider69 replied to Soso's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I think you have to buy it here it is a hassle to buy. the process is something like this. Down load form fill out mail picture and form, pay at bank then get the pass. Try to get someone to do it for you in Japan if you can. Went to Happo yesterday and buying a pass there was like buying a pass 20 years ago in Canada. Get with the times get an online system also a modern system to make a pass if someone walks in. -

For people wanting cheap or used tires or even used parts to fix your car Taihei Tire is a great place to shop. I buy lots from them for cars im going to use for a season or 2. -

Pieps Freeride Transceiver
rider69 replied to NECK's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
The freeride is something you put into your bag just in case your beacon explodes or you forget it at home. It is not a go to choice at all. I wont ride with someone that thinks it is an acceptable beacon. Never put a beacon on your dog I would hate to find my dog and loose my friend!- 11 replies

Cross country skiing
rider69 replied to loucat's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Id say 1oo to 150 meters long about 25 degrees or more. Mr.wiggles will have to put some pta time in over there so he will know. The cross country track is set by a snowmobile with a track setting attachment. depending on the loop it is about 700 meters or more. -
