  1. if you can't find one i'm sure one of the takkyubin companies within the airport can help you out for a small fee.
  2. Links for Nango- http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=97 http://www.nango-ski.com/
  3. read somewhere they might not be opening all their park this year. Did you ever make it to Nango in Fukushima? That place is pretty good too.
  4. no worries! are you seriously gonna buy one?? here are a few more (all second hand) - most with delivery included too http://search.rakuten.co.jp/search/mall/%E3%82%BD%E3%83%95%E3%83%88%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A0%E7%9C%8B%E6%9D%BF/-/?c=2836&l-id=s_search&x=0
  5. what can't you find on rakuten??? http://item.rakuten.co.jp/tenpos2/210050000022/
  6. am I the only one who thought this thread was gonna be about someone from Stoke wanting to do a house swap with someone in Hokkaido??? Nice powder!
  7. That ticket seems like a good deal. Online it says that you can only use it at one place in a day. But check it out when you go the first day- if they just give you a lift ticket who's stopping you going and getting another one at a different place? But they may get you to swap the season ticket for a lift ticket, then swap it back at the end of the day. If that happens then you are stuck.
  8. The Jezabels. Best Aussie band I've heard in a good while. Quite breathtaking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryE3whzlxmQ
  9. All over the news this week, and for the last couple of months. Looks like a big decision to be made this week. Will the Japanese government decide to join negotiations for the TPP? Korea signing the FTA with America has made the decision clear I think. Japan has no choice but to join in. Whilst I understand there will be major reprecussions, they can't keep supporting inefficient farmers forever. Opps, messing round with computers too much these days! I'll try that again. FTP = FTA = free trade agreement TPP - trans-pacific-partnership - free trade agreement between Amercia, Ja
  10. Inawashiro is a fair bit better than Inawashiro resort. But Inawashiro Resort is pretty cheap I think.
  11. says there's no half-pipe this year. that must mean no nippon open either. looks like they will try to keep the rest though.
  12. Best park I have seen is at Alts Bandai in Fukushima. They hold the Burton Nippon Open there every year (except last year it got cancelled due to scheduling conflicts and who knows what will happen next season). Not much for partying but the weekend of the Open is huge and you can drink with the pros. Nango is also very cool and off the radar- http://www.snowjapan.com/e/voice/readrereview3.php?resortName=Aizu%20Kogen%20Nango&prefecture=Fukushima . Saw it in a dvd featuring the biggest jump ever made in Japan. You can see the remains of it near the top of the resort.
  13. nice! Grandeco gets a fair bit of snow considering where it is. If you're lucky the season can start in late Nov and continue till early May. It's like a little bit of Hokkaido transplanted into Fukushima.
  14. that mountain is so cool. get great views of it on your way up to Nanae. looks like it was once well shaped and then just exploded from the middle! Nanae was my first ski-jyo and a place that holds a special place in my heart. Not particularly big, but has a good long gondola and the snow isn't too bad. Catching the train from Hakodate up there early in the morning is quite breath-taking... until the tracks get covered with ice and the train can't make it up a slight slope coming out of a station along the line! Ice fishing there wasn't my cup of tea. Maggots for bait, freezing cold, not man
  15. i find the best way to follow it is through fantasy hockey. makes you read all the latest news online and learn about players you would have normally had no interest in. the highlights on nhl.com are pretty awesome too. but this is coming from an aussie who has see very few real games on tv so that is usually enough for me.
  16. I always laughed at their inept performances in the past in the playoffs but I feel i'm cheering for them a bit now. I had Clowe, Boyle, Pavelic, Niemi in my fantasy team last year and they got me over the line! Other points to ponder - when will Crosby be back and will he be the same player? How will the Flyers go after trading captain and assistant in the off-season?
  17. this should make it easier http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/snowjapan
  18. Not long now till the NHL season starts again! Can't wait! I must say I was surprised by the amount of chat here on the playoffs last year. I think it's time for San Jose to life the cup next year. Anyone interested in some fantasy hockey? No better way to follow the season I think. I've created a head-to-head league for SJ people on Yahoo fantasy and am looking for some managers. League name: Max 30 Characters Password: fantasy Drop a message in here if you need help finding it.
  19. Anyone got a stunt kite? I'm thinking it would be cool to go to the top of a ski-jyo and have a go. Should be plenty of wind and space up there. I remember having a good one as a kid and it almost pulling me off my feet on the beach. Anyone got any recommendations?
  20. just to update this, in the end i got a Toshiba Regza 42 inch Z2. Very sexy tv and the most beautiful picture. Only complaint at the moment is that it can't play the video from my HD camera (via memory card or USB HDD). Can play some types but not others. Should have researched that a bit better.
  21. Fukdane, enjoying life out of Fukushima? I moved away from there in June (up in Hokkaido now) and my new town here gave me some assistance money. 200 000 yen now and another 100 000 yen in two months time if I still live here. This is a local government program and you may be elligible if it exists in your new town/city. I think the money came from local donations. It is enough to cover the costs of moving and I am very grateful for it. Please check it out if your place has something similar.
  22. Right here? People are a little worried but they have fallen into the trap of comparing. People think here isn't as bad as area A or B so we will be okay. Kids are playing outside, no school grounds have had their soil replaced, not much really being done here. Areas like Koriyama and Fukushima are taking things a lot more seriously. I have a friend in Koriyama who won't let his kids outside to play and went to Niigata the other day so they could get some fresh air. He will spend the summer hols in England with his family to get away from it for a while. But unfortunately this problem isn't go
