  1. おひさしぶり everyone. yeah, g-g I chucked a thursday ... Tubs, I really wonder what my life is/was all about but we don`t get into that. Yes I lost my Japa citizenship
  2. Hey all, I am back in Japan and wanna get my permanent residency. Since I am the real-son of Japanese, this is no problem but still have to go thru the process. How did you guys get the hosho-nin ? I am in a situation I really don`t have anyone I can ask. Any NPO ?
  3. Got here and was surprised how warm it is. Today is a normal 20 to 22 C .. more like it. damn surprised how expensive Unagi is
  4. When you cannot fall over .. you are done. Gone old. I learnt snowboarding at 48 I knew how to fall, but I wished someone wuld teach me how to fall on snowboards. Bit different ... And had I known how much / hard I would fall, I would have gotten helmet, pads, wrist guards
  5. There is a thought about this running and shoes business, There´s big money in shoes, and some thinks that the high tech shoes that absorb iimpact is doing more damage to our feet. How so ? Actually by runners relying on the shoes and by running in a style that bangs your feet on asphalt too much. Some people reckon the flat rubber botom - like the old dunlop sand shoe - is the best. I run with mocassins. sometimes bare feet. Japanese Tabi is great ! Especially the rubber soled ones.
  6. Stck with one board. Get the Roxy what if ... you couldn´t be bothered going out on spring slush / jib in the future ... OR...... I´d look for a used Twin, 151 or shorter for those days. Maybe Ippy could flog one
  7. I had ski experience before. So I knew snow, and had an idea how the board would work. Longboard Skate is something I picked up in the last few years, because my Mrs.´ have one. I tried a short one after I got used to that. I Just fall off... It´s difficult. I have great respect for those who can ride them and reckon it would be much easier for skateboarders to snowboard. I also think that surfers makes good snowboarder/ skier. I have a surfer friend who picked up skis. He was skiing paralell after a week, in style ! - Surprised me, that took me years ...
  8. Huh ! packing and making 30 kg boxes ... I climb up and down the scale to get it right ... moving house makes you fit
  9. It means " You are not one of us. You don´t understand and we don´t expect it." Even in one´s own language, some people can´t read in between the lines.
  10. There´s something really groovy about snowboarding ... I stopped skiing for a long time. Snowboarding really got me going again. I say that skydiving and snowboarding really changed my life. But what really grabs me is the Hights... The mountain. It´s so good to be up there, chill out and take my time, and then go for it. I´m a lazy bugga. I don´t mind climbing up but I hate going back down. Slidind down, flying down on a canopy is great way.
  11. We are flying in on the 27 th. Since 28th being a Saturday and Golden week starts after , we decided it´s probably not worth going.
  12. I don´t understand how people find it difficult to traverse on snowboards Sure, you can´t walk on a flat surface, i mean to traverse on a horizontal, but if it is going down, you can traverse ! It´s like going up down in a pipe section of a wave on surfboards ... It´s just easier on ski because you have 2 edges. I don´t find accessability an issue, It will only be so when you go to places where skiers have dynafit bindings and then ... we will have splitboards! I haven´t tried the fat skis yet ... maybe one day. I still think skis can be problematic in pow ... when one ski goes deepe
  13. Gozaimas Making a template is a good idea. Easy to make different core thickness/profile. I like the nose shape ... Mine is similar, too. So is the long side cut radius. I reckon it will be a good one. Mine is under raps. Top secret lol. You vacum bagging? or have you made a press ?
  14. Yeah TB You know what´s easier and way cool on snowboard.... Pow It´s like skimming/ surfing on snow. With ski, it´s bobbing up and down. Why would you like to be buried up to your chest in snow
  15. You know what I really miss playing ... Softball Mitch, I´m not a really good freeflyer .. I fall the same rate standing when most guys are sitting . I jumped with a heavy guy on belly, and me sit. I like going for a tracking jumps. I let you go rabbit.
  16. I reckon you can ski from day one but not snowboarding. For example, a 3 yo can go on a ski but not a snowboard. Ski is just a extention of your feet. I mean its longer shoes with slippery soles you are wearing . You start ski with bogen and progress to parallel. Some people find this progression difficult. Some do it in one week, others take years. Snowboarding - you defo fall more on your first few days. What is more difficult on snowboard is as one advances. When you go down very steep area / icy - you only have one edge to lean on. Easy to go down 60 degree slopes on ski but not o
  17. It´s never season over in European Alps. The question is how desparate is one to go... on crappy snow (compared to winter)
  18. Skydiving (freefall has gymnastic quality) and paragliding ( I don´t think of this as sports, more like floating on a pram) - but I´m thinking of giving it all up. I really don´t do sports. Bicycles, longboards, walking uphill downhill, swim, body surf ... never considered those things what I do as sports. Watching sports is boring.
  19. Next seasons in Japan is definitely a maybe . More likely struggling to settle down back in Oz. I´d be spewing reading up on everyone´s stoke so I think I will temporary retire from the forum. Good luck on your mission.
  20. AlexS, my Mrs went from a Rome 151 to Salomon 157 in one day, no probs. Your Smokin´ ...interesting rocker and camber combo ... I wouldn´t have a clue how it feels Fish or Hovercraft at about 156 would float you no worries, but don´t expect quick edge to edge on piste. I don´t know what width your current board is, but me and Mrs is on the firm opinion that (at our size) we don´t want a board wider than 250mm (for what we like to do). Width has more effect / feel on the ride / technique than length. Maybe you might like to compensate by going to the short side of the short/mid-width po
  21. You are about my size. You are also lucky living in the States (I assume) and can get good boards at better prices than ... say Europe. There are 2 thoughts. Go long or go short and wide. People tend to go for short and wide snowboards assuming ( and true to a certain extent) it is better in trees. While I am in Europe and I like steeps and glaciers, I like length and narrow widths on my board. I also like the feel of swallow tails. You don´t necessary need a powder specific board, just a board that handles all-mountain and powder, but let me ramble a bit. You want a size for us. To be h
  22. Cheers Mick ! If you guys were snowboarding where I do, you would probably agree with me on the really fast base boards. There are some really nice steeps but with a very long flat run out. I could crank it down and pass my wife on the steeps, but she will pass me on the flats and get out while I get stuck ...
  23. I got the official approval from my Mrs. that I can buy a new board... How did I do that!? Well, my Mrs. loves my super fast board and has been ridind on it for over a year. She wanted to swap boards for a day and finds out that she has a better board. ` Hey , you need to buy a better board ! ´ cool huh. BTW. definition of a better board for us. Super Fast base. ( most boards advertised as such is BS) Narrow width. Longer sidecut radius. anything else is just a gimmik
  24. Probably the last snowboarding trip for this season.. because we avoid easter hoildays and being warm this year, snow is pretty bad . So. for what we have saved up for going to Japan, we went to the glaciers here in Europe. For 3 days the snow was hard packed and icy in the morning, and later the sun softens the surface. Everywhere that was inviting was pretty tracked out and the run on that was pretty choppy and may catch the edge. We stayed on piste which is flat (20 - 35 degrees) and very long for fast carving action. What else can we do? Bombing without turns gets boring and I kinda go
