  1. Buuuuut... i think the graun also confirmed that he wont be able to sign for another club in that period. So they might be able to keep him for another season. Every cloud As for the game... id be terrified watching this as a yank. Germany running the game. Enjoying watching everything the little bald head of Bradley does like a hawk whilst ignoring everything else. So far, seen him make 2 alright forward passes, and run after about 8 tackles hes got nowhere near. Its fun Germany have to win it though... seriously... Jones powers through, and Bradley plays a genuinely intelligent
  2. Yes, but this just really outlines the function of a referee to adjudicate and not really the difference in the intention of the act itself. If its deliberate, its deliberate regardless of whether or not theres a possibility that in another situation, it could have been an accident. If it helps, ill concede this point and get off the relative damage issue: If a player pulled down his pants and peed all over an opponent, he's not left any marks, but it's still a lot more serious than a bad tackle ETA: Someone mentioned being spat at as well. Im starting to see the point. ETA2:
  3. I get that. but then i start thinking, what if it is deliberate then, what if the whole thing is to do something wtf and get the appropriate reaction out of the defender. Professionals arent going to be phased by the above mentioned things, and will take them in their stride as part and parcel of the game, but then you think of Vinnie Jones grabbing Gazza's nutsack... So i cant find the part of me that wants to condemn it. Im trying very hard because im obviously in the oddball wing here so i should accept my moral compass needs a bit of adjustment, but i just cant. I dont even like the dude
  4. Sorry dudes, youd have to convince me its massively different. If it helps, i dont think a deliberate elbow in the ribs is acceptable. I dont think people stamping on your feet is acceptable either or raking the back of your legs. But these are all common place. Its a sending off, im not disputing that, but i dont get why people think this is somehow far and away different deserving of some kind of enormous ban. Hell, why is this so much worse than Pepe's headbut or that elbow in the back by Song? Hes done it before? But er, isnt Pepe a ticking time bomb of rage? Wasnt it pretty much part of t
  5. well yeah, violent conduct and all that. But back at the game... Argentina score in the last minute of the first half. Nigeria reply 2 minutes into the second half. Argentina score 2 minutes later...
  6. Dont bother me in the least. Anyways, if you aint watching the Argentina game, 4 minutes gone: 1-1.
  7. ETA: Formerly in the wrong thread :") Ive just seen that greece penalty. So im going to put in order the three things that deserved automatic red cards. 1. The penalty. ****ing disgusting. 2. Suarez having a nip. Who gives a shit? Its up there with an elbow in the ribs in my mind. Yeah, red card, but why do people go mental on it? Seriously, what the **** is hoddle on about? Wont someone THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!??!! 3. Balotelli's WWE neck breaker. Stupid, clumsy and could have led to someone's career ending, but obviously not intentional, just well dangerous though.
  8. Probably one for the chess fans. Italy holding possession, gently working it to just inside the Uruguay half, trying the occasional push, but more often than not, not bothering. Uruguay get the ball, try to push quickly, get smothered, give possession back to italy and we do it all again. Uruguay probably looking for a set-piece in truth. Just heard Chiles say that costa rica look 'alarmingly ordinary'. This has bothered me. Costa rica arent that great. They were more often than not lucky against Italy. They pushed high, were caught several times by passes lobbed over their lines, and got
  9. Cant decide which game to watch! I mean obviously the italy-uruguay game is the one you should be watching, but i really want to see how Hodgsons half-pints do. Ya see, i like that hes doing what hes doing. Dont care that they win or lose, just want to see if he gets the direction he clearly wants. Tricky choice
  10. ah, you know, he ht it decently with enough pace, he just happened to pick the only spot in the entire goal where the only player for Portugal (Costa i think it was), happened to be. Maybe he shut his eyes. He seems scared of the goal to be honest.
  11. Right, can someone explain Bradley. What the **** is he? Theyve stuck him at the top of their diamond, but the dude is slow, lacks creativity, holds up possession instead of attacking with it, and cant lay off a pass longer than 5 yards sideways without it going to a player from the other team. Oh, and he bottles it the closer he gets to the goal. Everything about him screams holding midfielder. When i think of the dude, i think of two key moments. The first one was his fluff in the box that fortunately led to the Dempsey goal. I think he did it earlier as well. (His open goal miss shouldnt re
  12. Dear China, if i wanted to eat my mcdonalds in a toilet, i would have eaten it in the toilet. Please dont whip your kids pants down 2 feet from my table and have them piss into a bottle. Thanks. Your mate, ipps.
  13. Fell asleep in the Argentina match (didnt fancy my chances to be honest of making it), would have loved to have seen the Germany game live though. Sounds like a genuine cracker.
  14. Just over 80 minutes to go. Was kinda filling my time with nothing and started reading the honduras-ecuador report on the guardian. Was gona just skip it since ive seen the goals, but it sounds hilariously good fun. Off to watch it. http://www.theguardi...014-live-report (im still chuckling away at the images they went for). ETA: ETA2: 20 minutes in and ive seen: i) a **** you attitude to midfield. Both teams might as well play a 4-0-6 formation. ii) a sublime pass to costly on the half volley that just skidded away from him. iii) a beautiful run from right to l
  15. "The best world cup since...!!!" said pretty much everyone. watching the build up on motd... alan hansen true to form: "that sums up the tournament. No one can defend." I just realised his scar looks like the symbol of Tao. Do not glorify the achievers So the people will not squabble Do not treasure goods that are hard to obtain So the people will not become thieves Do not show the desired things So their hearts will not be confused suddenly i understand the Tao. I also understand Hansen.
  16. Fark me! Robbens goal, nice. Cahills. What the ****!
  17. In other world cup news, spent all monday creating a nice double ppt for the kiddies (a world cup explanation and a world cup bomb game). Just done two lessons on it. It turns out that no one in China could give less of a shit about it. Only another ten classes to teach. Its going to be a long two days
  18. Just woke up, had around 5 hours sleep, switched on iplayer, Just missed the Korean goal. Then Blam, russian counter and immediate goal. And since then its been terrifyingly fast. Its too early for this kind of game. My hearts in my mouth. Also, Korea... brilliantly inventive balls out there versus stupidly aggressive russian surges ETA: Missed the second half of the Belgian game. Disappointed with the result, but not unexpected. ETA2: Games calmed down. Thank christ, too much to process right after that goal. Russia really looking up for winning this though, so many players in front
  19. hooray! algeria have been dull, but belgium have been worse. I cant stand watching teams just pass it around their back 4 waiting for space, its tedious as shit. I mean itd be alright if people are moving somewhere or creating openings, but its static. Its just pass to the left, nothing. Pass to the right, nothing. Maybe have a venture forward... get crowded, back to the back 4. At least, shit as they are with their 10 men behind the ball, when they do break Algeria put a bit of pace into things. Lets hope they lose. But they wont. Of course theyre just going to pressure and pressure and d
  20. Grauniad blog just threw this one up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1JaUD1tWLo&feature=player_embedded
  21. Game was good fun. Well, for about thirty minutes. Even at 2 down Portugal still looked like they could pull it back. Two things to note: First, I used to play for a german local team years ago, and i remember watching the Bosnians and thinking "oooh, classic Germanic style". Memories of training sessions that were about 10% running, 10% 5 v 2 one touch, a bit of cone dribbling, a small kick around mini match at the end, and about FIFTY PERCENT of the session being drills on shooting from outside the box. ****, they LOVED shooting from outside the box. I think it destroyed my game to be h
  22. Its my weekend (work wed-sun) so can finally watch some games. And after literally hours of trying to find the games online i suddenly remembered i have a vpn and can switch it to the UK. Ah, its nice to watch Lineker. Pity my first live game was the switzerland-ecuador game. Worse that the bastards on the guardian feed posted this abomination so i can no longer write the word Ecuador withour hearing "eh! kwa-DORRR!!!" Doop doop, de doop de doo doo, doop doop, de doop de doo doo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44t3xc_XDes&feature=kp Looking forward to the portugal germany ga
  23. I mentioned this one in the good tv thread a bit back, but his parts in Man Down were as delightfully mad as ever!
  24. Classic game! http://en.wikipedia....from_the_Desert Also, gassan can now shove it. Sorry gassan. Love the pics and report, its been incredibly helpful. That snow looks rough.
