  1. The ideal would be something similar to the situation in Europe where you can buy cover specifically for backcountry from mountaineering/ski associations.

I will not be using a guide and am really not sure about whether I am eligible for regular travel insurance as I haven't spent more than 6 months in one country in the last 7 years. Worldnomads works for me ok, but it is expensive and I am unsure about the level of cover provided for off-piste.

  2. Even here in Niseko, there are some completely pointless ropes, I'd say the patrol here is much more cautious than other resorts around the world. Really hope that someday someone buys Tokyu out and makes Haro no taki skiable. That said, as I get my pass through work, if I got caught ducking ropes, I would lose my job, so I don't duck, even if i think their rules are stupid/overly cautious.

  3. What if one put snowboard-like bindings on skis, and wore snowboard-like boots? Would that work?

Would work wonders if you had stainless steel or titanium ankles.

There's a reason skiers no longer use leather boots; I believe it's called orthopaedic surgery.

Not that crazy actually, I have seen a boot like that, carbon exoskeleton, with a snowboard boot style inner. Pretty certain they are just for very casual skiers though, the forces than can go through boots are pretty extreme at high speeds, I wouldn't want to try them.

  4. My foot suits a Lange - narrow, long. Not sure if your 100mm foot will feel the same. Unless they've started making wider fittings.

    All great advice above.

I might be able to get into their 98mm or they do make a 100mm wide RC series.

Yeah Lange do the RC wide fit up to 130 in flex, so could fit you fine. I have a relatively wide foot as well, and love the Atomic RT CS 130s, the 'CS' part means club sport, i.e. a bit wider at 98mm than the race fit 95mm. They take a little bit of grinding, and then they are fine, sometimes a punch in spring when it gets hot. Though if I ski more than 40-50 hours per week, they can start to hurt.

I've had a pair of those every year for the last 3 years, they are (or have been) getting discontinued though, so will likely switch next year, the Dalbello Scorpion looks good, as does the new Atomic, the part carbon Redster.

The boot solution guys at Rhthym are pretty good, but this year I am getting my boots fitted in the UK, so I can get my soles ground for alignment, which they don't do in Niseko. Hopefully should make a bit of a difference, I've always had custom footbeds, but never touched the soles, so should be interesting.

  5. I haven't found skis in to Japan to be very good value, best to buy a pair left over from last year in the UK, than rely on being able to get them in Niseko. I have seen some ok deals on some skis, but in limited sizes and types of ski.

skis in niseko are very expensive, and renting is quite expensive too. in any case, they cater to the tourists, so they usually dont have the good stuff in stock

but i have found that buying skis online from Tokyo to be just as cheap as when I was living in USA

Where have you found good value skis? I always have a browse on Rakuten, but they are still hilariously overpriced, and typically too small.

  6. ......and MB has her kids working over there.
actually there has been a hiccup on this.

He is on a wait list.

Something about the jobs available did not require the higher board qualification, which made him too expensive...

At this stage in a holding pattern, if there is no offer, he is likely to go for a month in Jan/Feb, and see if he can pick up casual instructing work. (which is what they have recommended).

It's no biggie as he earns a lot more per hour here in Perth anyway. It's just not the lifestyle he ultimate wants.

    That's weird, which school!?

Learn to spell, learn to reference, learn how to structure an argument properly, then I might take your half-baked bullshit seriously.

So who are you my fu#*ing spelling teacher!

No, just someone who studied climate change at degree level, who read journals, wrote essays and research projects and can see very clearly that you did none of those things.

  8. OK, I'll bite.

Snowdude, how are you arriving at your predictions? Solar flares or something?

First thing first, the global warmists all say that the ice sheets are melting and getting thinner every year! This year they said it is at is smallest amount, which actually isn't true!

During the summer months winds blow which actually breaks up the ice, (a natural phenomenon), so radar used to measure the ice extent give off false readings.

Also they measure the ice in summer, when it is at its warmest with the most sunshine, of course a percentage will melt every year, but it soon comes back.

The southern hemisphere ice sheets have been growing during this time and are at there largest ever!

The warmists forget to mention these things and brain wash everyone into thinking Man made gases (global warming) is the course.

Some parts of Canada have already had snow, earlier than usual, oh the warmists forgot to mention this!

England has had its wettest and coldest summer in 100 years, oh the warmists forgot to mention this!

Who was the idiot from I think it was the London met office that said England wouldn't know what snow is soon, Uk has had the most snow in recent winters with this winter looking like probably being very cold and snowy in the UK and Europe.

All of the agencies are funded by the governments, they are non profit orginisations, they need a reason for constant funding, and the governments are both blinded by the rubbish the agencies come out with and connected together.

If the earth is cooling which it is then the agencies and the governments have no way of scamming money out of the general public, they can tax us for greenhouse gases, but they cant tax us for fresh air.

The past years the magnetic north has been moving and recently moving much faster, the earth is going into magnetic reversal. = global cooling taking place!

Also the jet stream in the northern hemisphere has moved a long way south, this is a very good indicator of an on-coming ice age, especially as it hasn't gone back, the agencies have forgot to mention this too!

The sun will be going to solar max in about a years time, and the sun spot count is far below what it should be at this stage. Solar cycle 25 is predicted to be the lowest in hundreds of years. Oh they forgot to mention this too!

The sun drives the weather conditions and patterns on earth not so called man made green house gases. The warmists forgot to mention this too!

The Co2 levels are in fact increasing, but the overall global temperatures have been decreasing. Oops you guessed it the forgot to mention this too!

Co2 levels were actually higher during the last age than they are now. Levels increasing is another sign of cooling.

The extremes in weather around the world over the past 4-5 years are another indicator of global cooling taking place, NOT due to global warming!

The number of big earthquakes and volcanoes erupting around the earth has increased a lot in the past couple of years. This happens before the onset of an ice age, as it cools the earth by blocking out the sun in many areas helping to lower the temps, which in return helps the ice sheets to grow even more rapidly. Oh the warmists forgot to mention this too!

These are all factors that I have thoroughly investigated and followed to come to my conclusion that an ice age is just around the corner!

I'm sure a certain warmist mention no manes will comment on this, not that I will bother to read it!

Learn to spell, learn to reference, learn how to structure an argument properly, then I might take your half-baked bullshit seriously.

+1 on getting involved with darts, lots of fun. I've met a fair few of the Nisade crew through darts, and they seem to be a decent company to work for.

If you haven't got flights already, I just got a good deal on Virgin, and they are one of the few companies that still give you free ski carriage.

    See you there.
