The Hokuriku Shinkansen connects Tokyo Station with Kanazawa Station in Ishikawa Prefecture. The first section of this line was known as the Nagano Shinkansen up until spring of 2015, when the tracks from Nagano Station to Kanazawa Station opened and the line became known as the Hokuriku Shinkansen. There are future plans to further extend the line beyond Kanazawa.

There are four types of train services - Kagayaki, Hakutaka, Tsurugi and Asama:
Kagayaki trains go from Tokyo Station through to Kanazawa Station, and do not stop at every station on the line. Hakutaka trains go from Tokyo Station to Kangawa Station and mostly stop at all stations on the line. Tsurugi trains go from Toyama Station through to Kanazawa Station and is known as a 'shuttle service'. Asama trains go from Tokyo Station to Nagano Station and stop at most stations along the way.
