Yonezawa is located to the south east of central Yonezawa city in the south-eastern region of Yamagata Prefecture. It is also easy to get to from Fukushima city using Route 13.
Yamagata Prefecture is located in the south-west part of Tohoku with the west coast facing the Sea of Japan. The boundaries of Yamagata Prefecture are all mountainous with Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture to the south, Akita Prefecture to the north and Miyagi Prefecture to the east. The ski and snowboard ski hills in Yamagata range from very small one-lift local hills to the biggest individual ski resort in Japan (Zao Onsen) and are spread across the Prefecture.
There are a number of car parks near the base of Yonezawa. Numbers 1 and 2 and free on weekdays and 700 yen on weekends and holidays. The northern car park (the car park that is closer to Yonezawa city) is free every day of the season.
We are still in the process of checking and updating ski resort information for the upcoming 2017-2018 ski season. Many ski hills do not update their own official information until November and hopefully most of our updates will be done by the end of this month. If planned opening dates have not yet been updated for a particular ski hill, note that most usually open around the same time each season. Message updated on 14th November 2017.
